Rent the Runway

Hi ladies-

This is my first post, but I've been lurking, reading, and learning since March.  I was wondering if anyone has had either good or bad experiences using Rent the Runway for a formal dress while pregnant? I'm going to a formal wedding mid July, at which time I'll be 21 weeks.  There is a whole category of "bump friendly" dresses, but I'm skeptical of whether that's judged by someone who has actually tried them on while pregnant or just because they look to have a little extra flow. I'd rather not spend the money on a formal maternity dress that I'll probably not wear again, so the idea of renting sounds very appealing.  Thanks for any input!

Re: Rent the Runway

  • I've never rented from Rent the Runway, but just wanted to share that I bought a formal maternity dress from Asos last time I was pregnant. It cost about the same as renting when I was looking. I've always wanted to try RTR though.

    Love rent the runway
I've never done it while pregnant, but they let you your order 2 sizes so you can get one that is a size up just incase. Most dresses also have pictures and reviews by actual customers that wore it, including sizes or mesurements so you can compare.

  • I second ALL of what @ash413 said.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • Maybe you could find a non maternity dress that has an empire waist. Not sure if this is your first pregnancy, but if so you won't be huge by 21 weeks.
  • I love RTR. I would also look for reviews with uploaded pics so you can see what they looked like. I also recommend getting 2 sizes just in case.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I've never heard of Rent the Runway, but I love the concept.  If you're not comfortable with it, many elegant empire waist dresses work for most pregnant women at that stage of pregnancy.  I have a maxi dress that I'm pretty sure will take me all the way through.  Depending on the formality level of the wedding a formal(ish) maxi dress with an empire waist may be a good choice.

  • I have a black tie formal event next week and found a dress at motherhood maternity for $35. I was looking at rent the runway too though.
I'm throwing a fancy beaded shall over the dress and adding some dramatic jewelry and calling it a day. I didn't want to spend too much.
  • I have found a dress I'm renting from them for a wedding when I will be 24 weeks. There are pics of three other pregnant women who rented the dress with great reviews. I've used RTR about a half dozen times and love it!
