I am in Canada. Where I work I get 17 weeks topped up to 95%(after a 2 week waiting period) of my salary and then the rest of the year is 55% unemployment insurance. I could take an extra year while keeping my job secure but I would get no unemployment insurance.
I can't believe most of you ladies only get 12 weeks off. That really sucks! I know a lot of the places where I live daycares/day homes will not take a baby younger than a year (some even 1.5 years!) Is it hard to find child care in the US for that reason?
Because of American maternity policy (or lack thereof), most daycares will take an infant at 6 weeks.
12 weeks 100% pay for maternity leave. I'm also on bed rest. I get short term disability paid..... 10 weeks at 100% then 15 weeks at 60 %. I work at a large national bank. When I miscarried at 18 weeks they gave me 6 weeks off at 100% pay. I feel that I'm pretty blessed.
My leave policy is the same. I am really hoping baby makes it full term. If I go into labor any sooner than 39wks I will be battling the Christmas Holiday and don't have any vacation left to use for it. I know this policy is better than some who aren't getting paid at all. It does fall under STD though so I've been paying into it since I started working.
