My doctor also told me to avoid starchy foods in general that morning, so I had bacon and eggs for breakfast. No toast, no potatoes, no starches or sugars. I passed the one-hour test with flying colors!
That's exactly what the girl suggested, bacon and eggs. Grrreat! Thank you so much for commented, everyone talks about how gross it is so I'm a little nervous... She never mentioned starches and I'm a starch addict, so thank you for that and I'm glad that you passed!
I say eat as you normally would. Don't you want to know if you have GD? I'm sure it's not good if it goes undiagnosed because you intentionally didn't eat the things that would make it show up. That's just my two cents.
HOnestly i don't think its that gross to drink the stuff. Its not something I would go to the store and buy or look forward to ....but really it isn't terrible or anything. .. Yeah...I would avoid doing something like eating a big hunk of cake or a candy bar right before going. The reason is that the solution you are given is a huge amount of sugar and if you pile up on sugar right beforehand it could skew off your readings. But I wouldn't try to cheat the test in any way. If you have GD you want to know because the health of your baby could depend on an accurate diagnosis.
Interesting perspectives. I always thought of it as trying to avoid getting a false positive test result, rather than "cheating" the test to avoid a real diagnosis.
I was told by Dr to fast for at least an hour before the test and that basically would negate the effects of anything eaten beforehand..I also agree, maybe this time will be different but I had no issues with the test, I actually thought the drink wasn't bad at all...not that I'd go out and look for it to buy it but it wasn't horrible by any means.

Yea, one of my friends tested on her birthday and had eaten birthday cake at lunch. She failed it, but never needed insulin when she tested throughout her pregnancy. I wasn't trying to help anyone cheat who might have it, I was more trying to help a healthy person like one of my friends not receive a false positive. The next time I post I guess I'll be more clear! I had just gotten home and none of my friends are currently pregnant, but I wanted to share the advice I had just received at my doctor's office. My doctor said that she wasn't worried about me having it. I used to eat some sour candy and drink some some juice before an ultrasound to see my baby move, that's just not the day to do it. Thanks for all of the feedback, though, ladies, both for and against. I hope everyone's having a great weekend.
