Re: breastfeeding help.

  • I've been told to completely undress them and he won't fall asleep while nursing so you can get a complete feed in. Good luck!

  • As soon as you see him falling asleep, gently shake your breast to get him to keep sucking. Catch it before they fall asleep. When he finishes on side, change his diaper to wake him up and then try the other side. This works for my kids but they are all different. Read up on the breastfeeding board or kellymom.com and I'd bet you find many more suggestions. I used to let my kids drift off after a partial feeding because I was exhausted and just happy they went back to sleep but then you start this cycle.

  • The class I took suggested undressing them, tickling their feet, talking and singing, anything to keep them awake.
  • Thanks!

this isn't my first time attempting to breastfeed but I really enjoy doing it and want it to work so Im trying pretty much anything to keep it up.

  • I used to tickle my daughters cheek or the bottom of her feet when she was getting sleepy.
  • A cold wet wash cloth on their feet when they start dozing off.
  • I also take the breast out of her mouth so that she gets mad and then I replace it when she's awake.

I found that I don't even have to take it out of his mouth fully. I just kind of pull away slightly, not enough to break the latch, and he starts suckling again. I also blow on his face. Lol. I'm pretty sure he doesn't like it - he scrunches up his brow. :) but it seems to do the trick sometimes.
  • With my first I was told to gently almost tickle them on the underside of their chin or just brush your knuckle from the back to the front of their chin to get them to "wake up" and refocus on sucking
