My LO is 10 weeks old and still hates tummy time. She will stay on her tummy two or three minutes max and then have a screaming breakdown. She does a little better if she has tummy time on top of me. Any suggestions for helping her enjoy it more?
Mine hates tummy time too - he shows great head and neck control when he's being held but with tummy time he usually lasts two or three minutes before he screams and face plants! I have found though that propping him up on the nursing pillow helps and today was a benchmark for us - he lasted five minutes! I'm also trying to read his cues and pick him up just before he starts crying so he sees tummy time as happy time. Once he's more interested in toys I will try them too though at ten weeks tomorrow he still prefers to look at everything rather than focus on toys.
Try when he is fed and rested. I do it one hour after feeding him. If I do it before, he throws up. We started 3 min at a time and are now up to 10 min
Thanks ladies! Good advice. She still is more interested in looking at me than in looking at toys but we will try them. I love the idea of getting her up before the breakdown.
My LO can't stand tummy time, too. She has great head and neck control, but just hates being on her tummy. So, last week she learned to roll over (at 10 weeks), and now if I put her on her tummy, she just ends up on her back. I am not going to get too concerned over it all! She's happy on her back, so I just keep rolling her back to her belly for a bit, and she pushes back over. I'm hoping once she is really interested in toys and grabbing things, she will start enjoying tummy time, rather than avoiding it at all costs.
