Netflix suggestions

At some point during this pregnancy or afterwards most of us are going to have a lot of time where we can't do much physically.  This may be stuck on bed rest, during labor, or after the baby is born and we're at the house with the new little one.  I figured Netflix would be a great place to turn for entertainment during that time.  What are some of your suggestions on movies or series to watch?

Walking Dead
Granite Flats
Firefly
Serenity
Orange is the New Black
Total Drama - A cartoon aimed at teens about a reality show.  It's rot your brain stuff that's still pretty entertaining.

    I recently watched:
    Arrow
    Agents of shield
    Royal Pains
    House
    Once upon a time

I'm kinda a nerd though with my sci/fi and fantasy ☺️

    Edit: stupid autocorrect

I need to try Torchwood again. The first season just didn't do it for me plot wise. I'd zone out and just start ogling John Barrowman, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. That is a scrumptious piece of man candy.

  • Yes House!

Omg! Me too! LOVE that show! If it wasn't for some stupid glittery vampires I would totally want the name Cullen for a boy.

Lol.  With all the Supernatural, Dr. Who, Firefly, etc, references in this post I'd say you're in great nerdy company.

  • Oh! House of Cards! Kevin Spacey is delightfully sinister.

Yes to this.  I started this the other day during my toddlers ever-shorter nap time.  So very cheesy and easy.  Could also get down with a Firefly/Serenity marathon at some point.
Also on watchlist is Twin Peaks.  It was before my TV watching time (my parents did not allow TV, everything I've seen is 2000 or later), but have always wondered about it. I love David Lynch and Kyle MacLachlan.
  • Downton Abbey, Fringe
  • Orange is the new black
    Greys
Private practice (but don't start private practice before or at same time as greys. Look up when the "spin off" happens)
    Once upon a time
    Last man standing (hilarious!)
    How I met your mother
    Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

Too be completely honest I didn't read everyone's lists because my ps3 is broke and thinking about my list makes me sad! Lol I have a huge list on my list to watch and I don't need to add anymore especially cause I literally can't watch any of them right now. Lmfao

Get a Google Chromecast, it's like $35. It plugs into your HDMI and you can use your phone to access your Netflix.

@VexyMommy, I was PRETTY sure I loved you, but now I know for 100% sure. I am so madly in love with Captain Jack Harkness, almost inappropriately so. My husband thinks it's hilarious because I really don't usually get into celebrity/character crushes, but idk, give me some Captain Jack all day, any day.

ETA: There is a quote somewhere where John Barrowman was asked if Cap Jack was bi-sexual and he said that he prefers the term "omnisexual" because he doesn't want to give the impression that his interests are limited to only humans. Ded.
  • I forgot Archer D'oh!
  • I forgot Archer D'oh!

My boyfriend calls our baby "The Wee Baby Seamus". Archer is the best.

I was actually searching for an image with that quote on it but didn't find it and I'm on a work computer so didn't feel comfortable narrowing the search term to Captain Jack omnisexual and then opening the images tab.  lol.

LOL!!! I love him so much.
  • How has no one said pretty little liars yet!?
  • How has no one said pretty little liars yet!?
I was going to say the same thing, before I got distracted by Captain Jack.
  • I think you would enjoy The Red Road. There is only one season with six episodes, but it's very fast paced and has an interesting story line.

Oh no! Was it the yellow light? We lost one to that! And our new one reset on its own one day (erasing 50 plus hours of the same two games both times!) Being a nerd is hard!
  • Lol! No, that cat SHOVED it off the entertainment center...did it to my Wii a few months earlier too. Needless to say I'm ready to kill the cat...she's also broken a lamp and eaten 3 of my new bras...(I have a cloth dresser like thing that she can easily get into) I think she's jealous of baby already...I can't even handle it. And yes, nerdum can be very hard! Ive just come out of the nerd closet recently. Still trying to catch up on a lot of my missed nerdscentials.

Personally, I prefer to watch mostly sitcoms that make me feel ok about the world. When I want to go deep I go to books or movies or conversation. So, that said, here is my list of TV shows that I can handle when I'm tired and need to veg. I'm also really sensitive about female and racial representation. There really is almost no TV that does that well, but I've also taken that into account in my list since that affects how I feel about the world after watching.

New Girl (Sometimes it is really stupid, but I usually find it relaxing and funny. There are a lot of men in it, but what can you do?)

My Name is Earl (Male protagonist as usual, but I like that this show is about someone who is honestly trying to be nice and think about others. I also appreciate that it represents a socioeconomic class in fairly humanizing terms that is rarely shown in entertainment.)

Parks and Rec (The best! Really different people mostly all being nice to each other and getting along! My faith in humanity feels restored after watching this show. I literally start getting all affectionate towards my husband when I watch this. Also, female protagonist!)

The Office (It is just really funny and well done. Everyone is kind of awful, but I still love them.)

Big Bang Theory (You can only watch the latest episodes on CBS. It is light-hearted)

How I Met Your Mother (I loved this show in college and then kept watching. I don't know if the show changed or if I did, but I started to really hate the characters in the last few seasons.)

Scrubs (Watched it all in college and the couple of years after. I absolutely loved it and thought it was the best show ever. Very smart and funny, but also kind of preachy. I don't love rewatching it now.)

Ok, so I also get in drama moods too.

Mad Men (Hated every character at first and then got addicted to their lives...)
Downtown Abby (Very relaxing, but last couple of seasons are disappointing.)
Switched at Birth (Can be anvilicious in its political correctness, but I found it enjoyable and appreciated their efforts at political correctness even if it is heavy handed at times.)

And, I can't watch much scifi/adventure stuff on my own (I tend to be a really sensitive person...), but I loved watching these shows with my hubby.

    Firefly (One amazing season.)
Dollhouse (Gets intense and can be sexist, but it is a lot of fun.)
Battlestar Gallactica (Love this show!!! Sometimes I laughed at the scifi goofiness or the choice in soundtrack music, but I also loved the ideas discussed and the characters and the story.)

Based on what you like, I have a few suggestions you may enjoy.

Better Off Ted - it's a goofy comedy about some good(ish) people who work for a horrible company. It can be pretty ridiculous, but it's funny.

I love things from BBC and Masterpiece Theater as well.
    Land Girls
    North and South

I wanted to kill the cat, but he's a cat man...and he loves them more than he loves anyone/thing else. Lol
