When will your ob see you for the first time?

Re: When will your ob see you for the first time?

  • I'm nervous as well. My doctor rescheduled me from July 13 to July 24. I was already nervous for July 13 because I will be 11-12 weeks and this is my first pregnancy. Also had laparoscopic surgery to remove endometriosis back in late January of this year. 12-13 weeks just sounds SO late for the first ultrasound. Anyone else being seen so late?

  • Mine makes you wait until you're 8 weeks. So I have to wait until June 29. Such a bummer to have to wait. But they did go ahead and schedule the rest of my appointments. So I'm
scheduled through August and have instructions to call back next week to make September's appointment. Additionally, it's a large practice with several doctors. My baby will be delivered by who is "on call" so they like you to see all of the doctors. I'll see my gal on the first appointment, but strangers at the next two. It's a little nerve wracking. I guess better for them to be strangers now rather than when I'm delivering! I kind of like how scheduling was done at my last OB better, but hopefully I'll understand it more when I get there. Remaining open minded because I do really like the hospital and all of the staff I've met so far. I was with my last OB for 5 years before she delivered my son. I literally saw her on my last day in town before I moved out of town. I cried at that appointment. Letting go of her is hard!
  • I just called and they scheduled me for July 13, I will be 8 weeks and 5 days. That seems like so long! I just can't wait!!!!!

  • Just made an appointment with a new ob that our pediatrician recommended (and the same group my friend is currently going to) and she will see me June 25. I'll be 7 weeks. So excited!

  • My office normally is 8-9 weeks but I go in for the first US and check up on Thursday 6/11, I'll be 6w2d since I am considered high risk. I had a MC in Dec at 8 weeks after an US with a low FHR a week prior. I have also had light bleeding and spotting since 4w4d and will be going in for my 3rd blood test this afternoon. So excited yet so scared.

  • My first appointment is Tomorrow (june 9th) They will be taking blood, confirming the pregnancy and most likely calling in a script for me.
  • Mine saw me this morning at 5.5 weeks just to confirm the pregnancy.  I will go next Thursday for an ultrasound to hopefully confirm a due date since I can't remember the exact dates of my last period.  I will have my first "real" appointment with my doctor, blood work, exam, etc. in 4 weeks.

  • Friday (at 5ish weeks). I'm switching to a midwives practice (my previous OB whom I loved became a laborist and I can't see him anymore), so this is a whole new ballgame for me. It's apparently some kind of group appointment and I'll have my dating U/S later on.

  • My first appointment is at 8w6d, which is just the earliest they could take me. Hopefully at that appointment they'll give me an ultrasound and I'll see the heartbeat. I'm going to a family reunion the following week, and I've been trying to figure out if I will spill the beans there -- having a heartbeat on record would definitely make me more inclined to share!
  • I just called the dr's office today to say that I took a test and it was positive.  I go in next Thursday to pee on a stick for the nurse practitioner, so I'll be almost 6 weeks and have to wait another week for the dr.  They didn't ask timing questions, that's just the next set of openings that fit both my and their schedules.  Wish it was easier and hate having to go in just to pee and wait another whole week to actually see the dr.

  • My doctor typically sees you around 8 weeks and up. I have an appointment for June 29 and I'll be like 8 weeks 4 days if you go by my LMP. Hoping to see that little blob and hopefully see a heartbeat when I go! It seems so far away!
  • With my previous pregnancy I had an u/s at 6 weeks. I'm hoping they'll do that again

  • Mine does an appointment with the nurse basically as early as you can get in to go over all the pregnancy dos and don'ts and whatnot. Then they get you in between 8-10 weeks for an ultrasound and blood work and to see your OB.
  • I am 5 weeks 5 days. I had a miscarriage in March, so this time they got me in for blood work right away. Doctor put me on progesterone suppositories, first appointment with doctor is in two days and first ultrasound is next week at exactly 7 weeks. So nervous.

I'll see my OB at 8 w 1 d on July 2. The OB office thinks it'll be more like 9 w but I have longer cycles so I wanted to play it safe and go in when I def knew I was at least 8 wks. I couldn't bear to go and not see much on the US. I'd rather wait an extra week and see more and hear the hb!

I wish my doc office would do that. This waiting until week 8 and 10 is ridiculous. I want to talk to a medical professional about what I should and shouldn't be doing! I hate having to read so much online, there is always so much conflicting info.

  • I'm seeing my midwife team in July. At 10 weeks. My appointment is 42 days away lol

I had a MC in Feb and will be 5w5d on Thursday when I see my OB. He also put me on progesterone suppositories! Let me know how your appt goes - I'm so anxious! Everything will be great :)

My OB ordered betas and checked progesterone because I had been having very irregular cycles recently (like loong). I figure she mostly just didn't trust my charting and wanted to be nosy. That's what I'm telling myself. I don't have a history of m/c, but I'm definitely way-aware of the possibility. Progesterone is good; currently waiting to see how well betas are rising. She says we can do a first u/s when my hcg levels surpass 2000. I secretly wish she'd have told me not to be silly--that I was low-risk and I could simply come in at 8 weeks. But now I'm in the land of TMI, and it's nerve-wracking.
ETA: I just received word on my second beta draw, and I'm singing out a big hallelujah for fast-rising levels!! I feel like it's really official now because my OB will finally schedule me: for realsies, I'm carrying our growing LO! (Appt. to be scheduled for the 6-7-week mark.)

  • Got a call back today that all levels look good. I was shocked because I've always needed progesterone in the past. 1st appt on June 26 at about 7 weeks. The nurse seemed confused when I said that my LMP was not going to be a good indicator. I am pretty sure I ovulated on day 28 of my cycle. I'll have an U/S and I'm hoping we will be able to get a due date.
  • My OB does the appointment at 8 weeks. So July 7th for mine :)
  • My first appt is July 10th, I will be 9w5d. This is my 2nd pregnancy so every thing is still fresh in my mind from LO#1 and I feel comfortable waiting until then. Plus, that puts me closer to the 2nd trimester and if i end up having to spill the beans after that appt to a few people, at least I'll be that much further along.
  • Saw mine yesterday. I had already confirmed at a local clinic for insurance purposes. That meant that all they did at my appointment was weigh me, give me yet another different due date, and ask about how I was feeling so far. They also reviewed my family history which they already had on file because I have used this office for every pregnancy.

  • I just realized that my first appointment is only 7 weeks. That seems really early. Will we still be able to see the heartbeat and everything by then?

I'd rather wait longer than end up with an unsettling ultrasound just because it was too early.

My first appt is June 17th. I will be 6 weeks 6 days. For my dr the first prenatal appointment is 8 weeks. I won't be getting an u/s that day as far as I know. Glad I am going a little early bc I have never made it to 8 weeks without issues. Also I am opting for chromosomal testing this pregnancy so I need time for referrals etc. Not sure if I will have the NT scan at 12 weeks but that requires a referral too.

  • Initially, I contacted my current OBGYN and they were going to get me in 6/15 and do an ultrasound and listen for heartbeat. They only delivered at a hospital far from my house, so I ended up switching to a new OB office.

My first appt is June 17th. I was told it was just going to be paperwork this time around and not to expect any u/s or heartbeat test. I'm not sure of my LMP dates since this was unexpected, but I have a rough idea. I was told they MAY do a dating scan- crossing my fingers they do! I'll be about 7 weeks.

My second appt is 7/17( day after my birthday :)) and they said they'll do an u/s and listen for heartbeat. I should be around 11 weeks then :)

I'm so impatient I wish time would speed up!
  • I wish they would get us in ASAP. They say the first weeks are the most crucial- I would think they would want to get you in early to go over all the important do's and don'ts.
  • I just realized that my first appointment is only 7 weeks. That seems really early. Will we still be able to see the heartbeat and everything by then?

I'd rather wait longer than end up with an unsettling ultrasound just because it was too early.

My first appt is also at 7 weeks. I believe you should be able to hear the heartbeat (At 6 weeks it's a maybe). My doctor said she likes to see people between 7-8 weeks.

The doc tried to schedule me at 7 weeks according to my LMP, but I asked to come in later because I know I'm not as far along (I O'd later in my cycle).

I will be around 8 weeks.  Jul 1 for an appt with the nurse and Jul 2 for an u/s.  We are trying to wait to announce until after the u/s, but the way my belly is popped out, I'm not sure we can wait for that.

First appointment for me is a week from today, about 6 weeks. They said they will be doing an u/s.

  • First midwife appt was at 5w 2d (high risk) and first u/s will be at 7 weeks. Did bloods at 5 weeks too. We're not managed by an Ob unless seriously necessary here in New Zealand, it's all done by midwives so they tend to be quite flexible.
  • I am scheduled to see them the 30th, which will put me at 8 weeks roughly
