3rd Trimester

Anxiety :(

this is kinda a cross post but Im really in need of a friend.. I've had severe anxiety this whole pregnancy and it hasn't gotten any better. I've been seeing a counselor and have been trying everything naturally but it's like anxiety has a grip on me rather than me having a grip on anxiety. I figured I've made it this far without any meds I could probably suffer through the way but idk since it's been so hard lately especially with anxiety attacks involved too. I'm still trying everything to just make it to the end without medication , I don't know how much more I will be able to handle though. Anyone else have anxiety? Really looking for support

Re: Anxiety :(

  • Yup I do. I went off meds before TTC and went back on in the second trimester when it got unbearable. The last few weeks it's gotten worse so I feel your pain. Baths and meditation help a tiny bit. I really wanted to be med free throught pregnancy but it got too be too much to handle. I find that when I am really bad if I call a friend or my mom or hubby just to chat it distracts me enough to feel better for a while. Also walking helps. Hope you get some relief soon.

  • I do, but it's always been manageable, then the last few weeks it got out of control.

I talked to my doctor about it, and we agreed medication was a good option for me to try. He also told me to call him anytime I needed to run a health thing past him (my anxiety always hinges around health and dying) and that I didn't have to come in and see him, but that he would always return my call.

He also said some really wise things to me that really helped me through while the medication kicked in.

Another point he made was that it was good to get these things under control early (as pregnancy hormones were probably adding to it) so that once baby was born we could reassess my needs to avoid it turning into full blown post natal anxiety and/or depression.

I'm not necessarily saying medication is the best option for you, but I think it's worth discussing options and your concerns with your doctor. I think it's also important to be aware of these things once baby is born just so you get help if you need it.

Best wishes to you, I understand how anxiety can take a grip and become so exhausting to manage. Big hugs!

  • Thank you for your replies. I guess the pregnancy hormones are making it worse. I will have to see a psychiatrist to get on medication because my midwives don't feel comfortable prescribing. I just keep putting off calling though. What meds are you taking if you don't mind me asking?
  • @purplecat9 I take Zoloft for my depression and anxiety. I take 25mg.
  • I'm on citalopram hydrobromide. I take 10mg a day.

  • Thanks. I guess I just need to figure out what is best..I don't even know myself.
  • Honestly, make the appointment and find out your options. If you don't like what you hear about medication, then work on a game plan with the doctor. They aren't going to force anything on you, that you aren't comfortable with.
