Tdap?

I searched but didn't find anything so I apologize if this is a repeat. I have birth on Monday and they suggested the tdap vaccine. We are pro vaccine and it was being offered so I got it this morning. We were discharged today and I feel like I'm coming down with the flu. Body aches, chills, upset stomach. Nothing is pointing to a vaginal infection which I know is always a concern after birth.

Has anyone else gotten the shot and experienced similar symptoms?

As of right now I'm not running a fever but even so if I'm feeling crappy in the morning I'll call the doctor. If I start a fever I'll surely call before then.

Re: Tdap?

  • Its not unusual to feel yucky after getting a vaccine. After both my flu vaccine and my TDAP vaccine the next day I definitely felt very tired and generally pretty poor (flu-ish, basically), tho I did not have stomach cramps, etc, like you. The day after I usually felt better but not yet 100% (as 100% as you can possibly feel while pregnant). Maybe your body is just reacting a little more strongly than I did.

  • I'm guessing you feel crummy from hormones and your milk trying to come in. Usually the tdap doesn't bother ppl ...... But it's just a thought.
  • I haven't heard of a reaction like that to TDAP - most people just complain that the injection site is really sore the next day.
  • I got the tdap at around 35 weeks and my arm just felt sore for a few days after, I think I felt a little sleepy but nothing too bad.. Hope you feel better!!
  • I would bet it's not the vaccine, it would be very rare (except for a sore arm where it was injected)
  • Thanks for the input. I was thinking it might be my milk coming in. I don't remember having so many body aches and pains after my first but they do say everyone is different. I definitely already have the sore arm and the shot was only this morning!
  • When I got the TDAP my arm hurt for 3 days like super hurt! Although I didn't feel sick just really sore.

  • I had this same reaction plus a fever when I got the tdap shot after I gave birth. I think it was a mixture of a lot of things; hormone fluctuations, milk coming in, and the shot. I took a cold shower to break my fever and the rest of the symptoms passed within a couple of days.
  • Congrats on the new baby! I too had my TdAP in my third trimester, and I was really sore for a few days...nothing else, though.  But I hope you feel better soon as well!

  • When I got my tdap before I got pregnant I got a fever of over 100 and was out of commission for a few days. My arm hurt so bad I could barely move it. But I definitely had a fever and chills. I went to the doctor and they said that was pretty normal and should go away on it's own, which it did.

I got it at 28 weeks or somewhere around there. No side effects other than a very sore arm. Hope you're feeling better and congratulations!

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I got mine right before being released and never had even a sore arm from it. Everyone's different I guess!
  • I had it and had similar symptoms. My husband just got it a few days ago and same thing.
  • Thanks everyone. I'm feeling mostly normal today so who knows what caused it but I'm glad it's passing.

My DH had his TDap yesterday and feels like crap today and he said his arm is really sore, which is normal. However, he said he felt like he had the flu with no temperature.
