Advice for Work Travel

Sorry this is so long. Advice welcome!

Traveling for work next week with my entire team for 4 days. Annual trip involving full days and a lot of dinners. As a wine drinker (not anymore!) I'm afraid many of my closer colleagues will immediately notice I'm not indulging. I even have a 1:1 dinner with my boss one night! Any advice???

I will be exactly 6 weeks so concerned the nausea and fatigue will be a factor in these long days!

Is it irrational that I'm also nervous about this cross-country flight? My doctor won't even see me until the following week for my first appt. Would have been nice to have reassurance before going!

Re: Advice for Work Travel

  • Well, with my first pregnancy I got outed at around 4 weeks pregnant (I'm an ICU nurse and was given a patient assignment that included a patient in full flu at the time). It's sucked be out so early, but it went well. Just don't drink. If they ask why you can say you're on a special diet or something (which is true).

Traveling right now shouldn't be a problem.

  • I work with a bunch of big drinkers and just mentioned a couple of times giving up alcohol because of a health kick. No one questions it from what I can tell, also I'm taking much healthier lunches so it all ties in well. I travelled during my last pregnancy early on and had no issues. I wasn't allowed to travel once I hit 30 or so weeks and there was no way I wanted to either!
  • Thanks ladies! I figure several will speculate (women with small children) but they have the courtesy not to out me! The men will be oblivious ;)

And thanks for the flying reassurance. I travel a lot and deep down I know it's totally fine, but as a first timer I keep questioning everything!
  • I don't have to worry about it this time but I just told my boss outright when we found out. I figured it'd make it easier if I was getting sick or even if we lost the baby. As for everyone else.... I like the special diet idea. :)

  • Antibiotics are a good cover, or even a alcohol cleanse, since cleanse are big.
  • I have a cross-country work flight next week and am also 6 wks, was wondering the same thing! It's possible they'll figure it out, but I might use the antibiotics line, thanks for the suggestion.
  • I'm traveling for work as well and am so nervous I'm going to have to leave meetings to be sick! I've already used "food poisoning" once...creative excuses welcome, and otherwise just glad to know I'm not alone.

  • We are traveling too in a couple weeks. We will be around family from about 7 weeks to 10 weeks, so I'm hoping I can be good at hiding it. Lol. Thankfully I only drink around 1 friend and he knows I'm pregnant. So thank goodness for that!

  • Antibiotics or muscle relaxers. If you're fatigued anyways that could be a legit excuse. Muscle relaxers make me sleepy and mixing them with alcohol would probably knock me flat on my ass in a hot minute!
No sir I'll have water/soda/tea because wine will interfere with my medication. Thanks for the offer tho!
