3rd Trimester

Induction Stories

Hello Ladies, I am having my second boy in a few weeks and this time around I am being induced. I would like to hear some of your induction stories...the good, bad and ugly. I am just trying to prepare myself for what happens when being induced. Thanks!

Re: Induction Stories

  • I had my daughter in April, FTM. I went to my Dr on Friday, he told me all my options as far as how to induce me. I chose to get Cervadil, it's a tape that goes into your cervix. Don't want to scare you but the worst part of the entire induction was when they put that in, I almost jumped off the table! Cervadil is only supposed to efface (thin out) your cervix, it's left in overnight (12 hours). I luckily was 100% effaced and 2cm dilated by 8:00 next morning. The plan was to start pitocin in the morning, but I didn't need much since I was already dilating. I received the epidural because at 2cm I thought my insides we're going to fall out. Once I had the epidural labor was a piece of cake, I had the sensation to push, I was able to feel my contractions but I was not uncomfortable to the point that delivery wasn't a pleasurable experience. I highly recommend the epidural, and to be honest, throughout my entire pregnancy I was so against it but when I hit 2cm and felt how I did, as petrified as I was, it was the best decision because I was able to enjoy my delivery and not wish it away. Good luck to you

  • Thanks for your story! I will look up Cervadil for more info...

I do plan on the epidural because with my first I had a 4 degree and if that happens again I would NOT want to feel it. :)
  • I did not have a good induction story at all. It was with my daughter who is my first. I went in to my 36 week doctor's appt. that Thursday and we found out my blood pressure was high. So, I was put on bedrest until later. Well, I went into the hospital the following Sunday, because it was still high and would not go down. My doctor decided to start inducing me. By the way at my 36 week appt. I was already at 5cm. So I thought oh this was going to be a piece of cake. I was started on the pitocin and the nurses kept changing the doses because my body was not keeping the contractions going at the same rate. This was at three pm. I would have three contractions on top of each other then I would have a two min. break then three more. The nurses kept adjusting the dose without the doctor knowing. At nine pm. I had my water broke and I still was at a five. Finally at midnight, I was at a six and my contractions were still not steading just getting worse.

Finally, my doctor had to do an emergency c-section because, I was still at 6 cm. at seven in the morning. I was puking my brains out and in a ton of pain from heartburn. So I had her at 8:05am. My doctor was pissed at the nurses for not telling her about the pitocin doeses they kept changing because they could have ruptured my uterus. It was a sign that my uterus was in a struggle with how it was doing the contractions.

Though, I now have a beautiful little girl and actually handled the c-section really well. My son was a repeat c-section and it was the best experience ever. I have my third c-section planned on the 9th and hoping for a good experience.

  • Wow that was a bad experience! Thanks for sharing though and best of luck with your 3rd!
  • I had cervadil as well.   Putting it in wasn't bad, the worst part was them getting the "string" back out.  Very painful and awkward but it worked.  Didn't need pitocin.  Insert at 8pm, cramping started at about 1030, had my LO by noon the next day.  I was 11 days overdue so we were ready.
  • It sounds like I had a similar experience as villa61811, except that I didn't need Cervadil. I was induced for high blood pressure at 40 weeks. I was already almost 100% effaced and about 1cm. They put me on Pitocin. It didn't really get things going after a couple hours so they turned it up and broke my water. Holy moly. The contractions came on fast, really really painful, and close together. They did turn the Pitocin down but at that point it was so painful I'm not sure I noticed a difference. I got the epidural at 3cm. It was crazy good. I couldn't sleep but I was able to rest and snooze in and out a little. I couldn't feel when my contractions were coming to push but the nurse and my husband told me when it was time. I could still feel a lot of pressure for pushing and could actually feel where I tore. It wasn't painful, but I could feel a strange pressure with skin stretching feeling in that spot. It ended up being a 2nd degree tear.

The worst part of me was that they made me stay in bed, preferably on my side. It was miserable and I think part of what made the contractions feel so bad. They said it was because of my blood pressure. I wouldn't say it was a bad labor and delivery, however, this time I got a doula to help with pain management options, even in the event that I have to be induced again.
