The dreaded flat head

So my LO was in the hospital for a long time and everyone stressed never let them sleep with you and back is best. How do you keep your babies head from getting flat in the back when he's on it for the majority of the day in his bouncer or crib? I do tummy time every day but he wants to fall asleep on it after a while.

Re: The dreaded flat head

  • Yes I have the same concern. My boy has the beginning of a flat head so I bought the Mimos pillow on Amazon. I don't use it when he's sleeping but the pillow is great when he is on his back looking at his toys or on his change table (I only use it when I can constantly supervise). I also use the baby carrier instead of the stroller as much as possible.

Baby's head will look a bit mishapen for the first several months, but just make sure you do tummy time quite a bit. I think they recommend 90 mins a day? This is baby #2 for me and my first is only 18 months old so my 2 month old is in the swing or bouncer a lot more than I'd like.. I try holding him upright on my chest or over my legs on his tummy if he's not loving tummy time on the ground. My first son had to wear a cranial reshaping helmet for a few months last summer because he was such a big baby and his birth mom was so tiny.. He was super susceptible to a flat spot so unfortunately the helmet was necessary for a while. I really don't want to have to do it with this guy, though!! It is nerve wracking!
  • My sons the same way! I purchased the clever foam pillow on Amazon and he loves it! I'll stop once he's able to roll over obviously, but that works and we also bought the boopy noggin head support (also on Amazon) we out the boopy in his car seat and we bought a second one for his swing. We mive it to whatever he's going to be put in... Bouncer etc...
  • My 1 year old got the flat head. So to help with it I went and bought him the tortle hat. It helped a lot. He still has it but not nearly as bad. His pediatrican said that as he gets older it will go away.
