Trouble TTC

Egg retrieval for first round of IVF in less than 2 hours

feeling very nervous this am. They hit me up with letrizole and follistim so I have a decent number of follicles, esp for an older chickie. I am getting surprisingly nervous. What if I ovulated overnight and nothing is there for them to retrieve? What if there aren't as many eggs as follicles? What if they don't fertilize or grow well enough to go back in in a few days? I am sure it will be ok, but I just wanted to get that all out. Any one have the same things going through their head with IVF, etc?

Re: Egg retrieval for first round of IVF in less than 2 hours

  • Oh I think that is normal -- at least I hope so as I am having the same thoughts, plus a million more.

I am also on my first IVF and I thought retrieval would be tmrw but at my monitoring yesterday they said I am responding well and would like to do two more days of stims so ER will be Thursday for me -- if they don't release on their own or disappear or stop growing etc :)

Good luck today, I hope it is a smooth procedure and they retrieve many eggs. Report back!

  • Good luck to the both of you!!!!! FX!!! I am at the beginning stages of IVF, but I'm sure when I'm in your shoes I'll have the same thoughts. Try and stay positive. Best of luck! Keep us updated. :)

  • Good luck!  Just finished my first cycle of IVF.. my beta was this morning, still waiting to hear.

I felt the exact same way as you did about my retrieval.  I was nervous about everything, the anesthesia, the amount of eggs they would retrieve, EVERYTHING.  But once you go in the OR and they give you the meds you remember nothing but waking up in the recovery room.  I found the days after the retrieval were the hardest, waiting to hear what fertilized and how they were doing until transfer.  Just keep positive thoughts (easier said than done I know).

Wishing you lots of sticky vibes!

  • I am back home, nestled in blankets. I am just taking it easy with some Netflix. The procedure was pretty fast. I went in with 11 follicles. They were able to get 9 eggs. they are going to do ICSI where they shove a sperm in each egg instead of just allowing them to meet up on their own. I hear tomorrow how many fertilized. Then just waiting for day 3 or 5 till they go back in.

Thanks for the well wishing and good thoughts. Best of luck to you guys too!
  • Glad all went well. Enjoy your day of relaxation! You deserve it.

  • I Just got the call from the RE office. Of the nine eggs, only 6 were mature which was unfortunate. However, all 6 fertilized and now I just have to wait and see what they look like on day 3 to find out if day 3 or 5 is transfer day. Kinda scared and excited over here. Like butterflies in my chest instead of in my stomach.
  • I'm so glad that all six fertilized! I'm excited for you!

  • Good luck! Fx.
  • @hopes4baby how did the transfer go? Hope all went well. Thinking about you!
    Kristy
  • Aw. Thanks for asking. The transfer was pretty smooth. Was like a slightly more complicated IUI. They transferred 3 embryos that they were happy with (said grade A and A+) and froze one. Get beta test on June 15. I am not going to do a home test. Testing early has been driving me crazy each month. Wish more had done well enough to freeze in case I have to do another transfer. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is the one and it won't matter how many are frozen.
  • Sorry! I was all wrapped up in myself. Cupcakegirl930, I hope your beta was a bfp. Msmaryt, how did your retrieval go?
  • thanks @hopes4baby but we got a BFN this cycle.  Will be starting again in July.. Sending you very sticky vibes and positive thoughts!!
