I was induced with DD. First they tried Pitocin tho. It just made me contract over and over and over again and never really progressed me. So they broke my water. I'm not sure if I was contracting at the same time maybe and it was Pre epidural but it hurt like hell. Other moms I've talked to said it didn't hurt them at all so I don't know why it was so painful for me. I don't think it's supposed to be painful.
I wasn't induced per day but with both my previous pregnancies I was dilated and effaced without the water having broken. I couldn't feel any contractions until they broke the water and then they really hurt. The actual breaking of the water didn't hurt, it was just kind of gross. They used what looked like a crochet hook, then the water started gushing and the contractions came on fast and furiously.
I had my water broken during my induction, to me it looked like they were using a really long chopstick, but I also think I was somewhat delusional at that point. My Dr recommended getting the epidural before she broke my water because contractions generally get stronger after and you never know how much time you'll have to get the epi after so I didn't feel a thing when she did it.
