Feeling overwhelmed?

This was my first week back to work and I'm feeling so overwhelmed. Anyone else? I'm a first time mom and my house is messy, I feel totally drained, I miss my baby. I feel like I've totally neglected my baby, my dog, my husband. The house. And next week the summer semester for school starts. I don't know how I'm going to manage. I'm not the only working mom in the world, so I know I need to buck up! People do this all the time with multiple kids. How do you ladies manage? Someone tell me figuring all this out gets easier!

Re: Feeling overwhelmed?

  • The advice I hear and try to take to heart the most is that our priorities need to be in the right place. If the dishes don't get done or the kitchen floor is covered in dog hair in order for you to be able to spend time with your LO, then so be it. Set realistic goals and try to be flexible, but don't drive yourself crazy. There's no easy solution but I have heard that it does get better. Good luck!

  • I feel for you! :( And I agree with PP about adjusting priorities. The loss of control was a very hard adjustment for me with my first! Once I allowed myself to lower my expectations for my less important duties, I became a lot less stressed. I would tell people that I was a new mom and not quite on my A game. (so for example, my nieces and nephews understood when their birthday gift sat on my kitchen counter for 2 weeks past their birthday, Etc...)

    It does get better!

For me it actually got worse around 4-5 months (Once baby gets mobile) then I really found it hard to get anything done except work, feed the baby, keep them safe, and try to sleep a few hours at night! But I promise eventually you will feel in control of your life again!
  • I officially go back next Friday... I feel like I'm just getting a routine with him and getting stuff done. I'm expecting a "learning curve" or adjustment period. I'm fine with falling behind on things but my husband isn't lol. Stuff all over drives him nuts lol. I told him I would focus on keeping things put away and he was fine with that. I know people will think he should pick up my slack but our lifestyle doesn't really allow for that. He takes care of our cow, garden and large lawn so that fills his Time before work. I decided I was just going to keep the kitchen clean and wipe down the bathrooms for the first week or so. My LO likes sitting in his compact high chair on the counter and watch me do dishes so it should be manageable. Good luck to all the ladies going back to work!!

Yeah we have one cow right now... Hoping to have three next year and chickens too!!
  • That's neat! When LO is old enough and providing she wants to, I'd like her to show beef cattle in 4H, and maybe horses like I did. Chickens are a lot of fun. I have four right now. It's funny, they each have their own little weird personalities and fresh eggs are delicious.
