TTC after 35

Anyone have experience with having a Mirena removed?

Hello new friends!

I'm having my Mirena removed today. I had a copper IUD removed previously and its not the pain factor in worried about, it's scary side effects I'm reading: month long periods, depression, the not knowing your "new" cycle.

Re: Anyone have experience with having a Mirena removed?

  • Looks like my message got cut off.

I was wondering if anyone had experience with this?

    Thank you,

  • I had the mirena for five years.  I didn't have any issues once it was removed.  My cycles weren't any different while I had it in though either.  I have read some crazy stories online about mirena but I never had any of the problems I've read about.

I guess I'm just saying for me I had no problems once it was removed.  My cycle continued on as normal.

  • I had my Mirena removed two months ago. I've had no issues whatsoever. I was a little irregular, and still am, but that's normal for me, since I was before Mirena as well.

Overall, I think with anything you will find a small but vocal group of people with issues, but most people do fine.

    Good luck!

  • I had some unpleasant stuff when I first had it put IN -- really painful insertion, two week long periods at first with only a week off in between, and it felt like I had swallowed my keys. Very stabby pains.

Taking it out was completely fine. Normal periods, no depression, plus the bonus of a really increased sex drive for a couple of months.

RE says the low egg count is likely causing my recurrent pregnancy loss. Less eggs results in more aneuploidy.

  • @CarrieandRoy Interesting...I also had a bump in my sex drive. I attributed it to the excitement ot TTC, but it could have been the Mirena!

I had my Mirena removed, had a normal cycle, and then got pregnant. Your mileage may vary-good luck!
