Pregnant after 35

SO had 36 week ultrasound...

baby is head down...thank you cooperative baby!

AND>>>>>> looks like I should prepare to expect my biggest baby yet.  I got an email update today saying at this point my baby should be between 4.8-5.2 lbs.  Yeah....welll....mine was 7lbs 11 ounces!  And though I will say ultrasound estimates are not always very accurate...for me they have always estimated too small.  I have no reason to believe that is the anything other than the case here too.  Throughout the ultrasound my doctor kept saying "there is just so much baby in here I can't see anything" and "you are just so full of baby" etc.  She has never said that before...therefore I think there is a whole lotta baby in there!  Plus I kept thinking this was one big strong baby as every movement he makes is so painful to me...like take my breath away make me shriek involuntarily painful.  I have also measured 3-4 weeks ahead pretty consistantly...when I have never measured that big in the past.

SO if this one is going to beat my record...He will need to come out over 11 lbs since my biggest was 11 on the dot!  Oh Boy!

  • no i won't go early for sure.  I always go over.  14 days over was my longest pregnancy and 5 days over was my shortest pregnancy.

  • Oh goodness. Lol They estimated baby at 8lbs yesterday. Who knows if that's accurate or not. But I'll take a 9lb instead of 11. Yikes!!

  • Yikes. That is a lot of baby. I would think because of the size wouldn't they try to avoid you going past your due date? There are some girls on my bmb who are being induced or have scheduled csections because of size of baby. Maybe they just want to and you don't want to, cool with me either way, but I was getting the impression in those cases that it was the drs instigating the discussion about not going past the due date.

Oh my!  I was worried about mine being estimated 8 1/2 pounds!  I certainly don't know if I could handle 11 lbs!!!  If you don't mind, my asking, have you delivered them all vaginally?  If so, more power to you!

Yes, all of mine have been vaginal.  I have never done any sort of pain relief during labor/delivery.  All came out without any sort of intervention like foreceps etc.

I am sure if I asked to be induced I could be.  My Dr does not attempt inductions until you are 39 weeks unless, of course, there is more of an emergency type situation.  But I dont' care to be induced.  I would rather go on my own.  I have ended up being induced more than once because I always go overdue and when monitored past due occasionally my fluid would be running low...low enough that they thought it best just to induce since there were no signs of labor on its way.

Since I have had 11 lb, 10 and 1/2 lb or larger babies (this is my 8th and my smallest was 8 lbs 9 ou.  All the others were way over 9 lbs) and have had absolutely no problems with delivering these babies....my dr feels no need to induce early and thats what I want as well.  So I will wait it out.
