Talk to me about weaning...

I feel like most of you have done this already and I feel kind of lost about it. We still nurse 4 times a day mainly before sleep and I would like to start the process but have no idea how. Do you just start offering milk in a sippy cup when you would nurse? Do you warm it? Tips or advice is much appreciated and thank you.

I'm not probably the best one to talk to about this, but I dropped two nursing sessions (both before naps) by simply replacing them with bottles. I realize that means we'll have another step to make at some point, but it did make dropping those sessions easy. I did one at a time, probably over the course of a month. Trying to decide now if I want to drop the morning nursing session...but it so often buys me another hour of sleep. I'm just not sure I'm ready for that!

This was several months ago but when I weaned I replaced a nursing session with a bottle of expressed milk. I then would cut out a pumping session by reducing the amount of time I was pumping. I think the kellymom site had an article about weaning I read when I started the process.

We're in the process of weaning, and I feel lost too! We're down to just bedtime, his 5am wake up, and if he wakes up in the night. The ones during the day were easy for us actually though. I dropped one at a time too, but didn't replace with bottles. We started kinda a new routine of reading some books and settling down then rocking for a minute before I put him down to nap, instead of nursing. I think he likes his new routine too, so it works. Maybe try cold turkey and see how it goes, then if LO freaks introduce a bottle at that point. I give a bottle (trying to move to sippy) of milk usually when he wakes up from a nap now. I was surprised how easily he transitioned from the day feedings. Pretty sure he doesn't miss them at all! I think the bedtime and 5am ones will be more of a challenge for us. Thanks ladies that's helpful. I know my husband is anxious to drop the night time feeding so we can go out. But I think the larger issue is that I am always the one to put her down. I'll work on dropping the day time feedings in a couple weeks when we get home.

I feel like LO was so good with transitioning. He loves drinking from straw sippy cups though. I think that was they key? Good luck!
