Keepsakes...

Anyone have any suggestions on keepsakes that are affordable or DIY. I know babies grow up in the blink of an eye. And I would like to be able to have little keepsakes to remember the important things. One thing I definitely want to do is stepping stones on her birthday every year of her footprints and handprints. I was hoping there would be more suggestions. FTM and my parents first grandchild. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks guys.

Re: Keepsakes...

  • Scope out Pinterest. I'm doing a shadowbox with his stuff from the hospital and first photos, but other than that, I'm not creative enough to come up with anything.

  • I think I'm just doing a wood growth chart and charting his height every year.  I dont want to get in the habit of saving everything, bc that's what my mother did and now I am stuck with everything and it just clutters up my house.
  • This is my second child and I am a very sentimental person. With my first DS I have a keepsake chest, inside I have a scrapbook of pregnancy and first year, hospital bracelet, newspaper from the day he was born, first outfit, first Halloween outfit, first shoes ect. I also made a few homeade projects for him when he was little. Just little things like his handprint on a small canvas. With this little one I started a keepsake box with my son, just a little wooden box that he painted for his soon to be little sister. :)

I am taking some of my favorite outfits for both boys and having them made into quilts. I don't want to keep everything either and boys just aren't as sentimental for the most part. I taped the hospital bracelets for DS1 in his baby book and of course filled that thing up with pictures and writings of things he did/does. Our daycare is real good with coloring/painting handprints and footprints every few months and I plan on scanning those and turning them into picture books on shutterfly or somewhere similar.

  • I am making a shadow box to match one I made from our wedding - we'll hang them side by side. Once baby is born I'm planning on making footprint/handprint salt dough ornaments for our parents/grandparents next Christmas. Also, I saw this idea somewhere - probably Pinterest - of using a tape measure as a growth chart. It's small enough to measure a baby but also long enough to measure a kid well into their teens (it's also very easily portable and doesn't take wall space, etc).
  • I'm Making a Scrapbook for our daughter.
  • I'm doing a canvas picture of my kids on a clock for their newborn pictures. The time on the clock is significant because that's the time they were born. This is my first born's picture. My second born will be similar.
  • Love the ideas ladies. I'm a very sentimental person and I just want to remember every little moment lol. This is my first and probably my only one. DH has two daughters already and they are 12 and 16. He goes back and forth about adding more babies though. We will see. :-)
