Anyone know how to stop baby from using a nipple sheild

my baby girl is now 5 1/2 months and she is still using the nipple shield. The first time I used it was when she was born. Then later on I stopped using it at about 2-3 months and then only started using it for flow control because she would become un latched when my milk would let down. No she won't eat without it. I don't know what I did wrong. Can anyone tell me how to get her to stop using it??

  • I would try using a smaller sheild, it will teach her to latch tighter. I had to do that with my son and gave it about a week and he was off the sheild completely. Good luck!

try to start with the shield and then take it off and breast feed, thats how i got my little one off the shield. gl :)
  • I used a shield until my LO was 3.5 months old because my flow was strong once I let down so I started nursing without the shield while laying down because I read somewhere it helps them let the extra milk run out of their mouth instead of unlatching. It took some time but he's 5 months and does great without the shield. I also started nursing with the shield then I'd take it off, when he was hungry he seemed to get really frustrated without the shield but once he had eaten a little he seemed to gain some patience. Also if you try nursing laying down you might put a burp cloth or hand towel under her face or whatever surface ends up soaked! It took like 2 weeks for him to nurse without the shield but I just kept reintroducing and it eventually worked! Good luck!
