Jaundice and worried

I just had my little baby girl on May 21st.
She was born 6lbs 9oz
After 24hrs they weighed her again.
She weighed 6lbs.
Her bilirubin levels went down and we were released.
The doctor made us a doctors appointment and she weighed 5lbs 14oz.
I haven't been able to produce barely any milk. So that's why her weight has dropped.
The doctor said to just stick with formula pick up her weight.
So I've been sticking to a very strict 12 times a day feeding.

She hasn't pooped or peed.....
She has a doctors appointment tomorrow.
Is there any advice or recommendations as to what to do at this point?
I'm really worried she hasn't had a bowel movement :((

Thanks in advance.

Keep feeding and share your concerns with the doc tomorrow. As long as she's eating the poop will come, trust me!
  • I would call the after hours advice nurse. No pee or poo worries me. Is she lethargic? Are you able to wake her up? How much are you supplementing? An ounce or more?

The no poop doesn't worry me. Breastfed babies can go 10 days without a BM. It's the urine that worries me. My daughter was born weighing 7 lbs 1 oz. She barely passed her bilirubin in the hospital and we went to her peds doctor 48 hours after discharge. They sent us back to the hospital for another bilirubin (her levels were low enough to be released), but my milk hadn't come in and she had lost almost a full pound (6 lbs 2 oz), so we had to supplement with formula to bring her weight back up. Right now she is getting a 50-50 mix of breast milk and formula. We bottle feed the mixture and I nurse on demand when she asks for it. There isn't nipple confusion. Your LO should probably be getting at least a total of 2 ounces every feeding. My daughter is 19 days old and she eats 2.5 oz every 2-4 hours (we got the okay to feed on demand instead of every 2 hours).

Don't be surprised if they send you to a LC or tell you to put her on formula as a supplement.
  • My son was jaundiced when he was born and we had feeding issues and he wasn't passing his jaundice as fast as the doctors wanted him to. They also recommended that I give him formula and even though it got rid of his jaundice quickly it ruined our breastfeeding relationship. He just wouldn't take it anymore and I ended up being engorged and developing an infection. Breastfed babies take longer to become less jaundiced. You should try looking up on how to rid of jaundice while breastfeeding.
