IBS sufferers anyone?? tips, tricks?? I am miserable :(

I keep feeling so thankful that my morning sickness has been minimal. However, my IBS has definitely kicked it up a notch. One of my most helpful trucks was rubbing peppermint oil on my belly, but I can't do that while pregnant. I drink peppermint tea about every day. Any other helpful hints?

I am an IBS struggler as well. Fortunately, my IBS symptoms have completed subsided with this pregnancy and did with my last also. I have heard that some peoples symptoms completely going away during pregnancy while others have awful flare ups. I hope yours go away soon!

Have you talked to your doc? Maybe they can suggest something for you?!

    Feel better mama!!

I have IBS and Crohn's disease. I used to use oils as well. I spoke to my doctor and he recommended tums or Rolaids. Tums don't do anything for me but the rolaids seem to help.

I have used to have mixed IBS (constipation and diarrhea) but since getting pregnant its gone to just constipation. I literally had no bowel movement for two weeks, then a small bm then nothing for another two weeks. I was taking 3 colace, a full dose of miralax, a full bottle of magnesium citrate and an enema everyday with no results.

Picked up vegetable fiber pills from our natural grocery store. The bottle said to take 3 pills daily. I took one and I had ELEVEN bm's in 24 hours!! Not loose bm's either. Just nicely sized, healthy bm's. I weighed myself before and after, I lost ten lbs of poop that day. Such a relief from the constant cramping and severe bloat and nausea. My ob was about to send me to a specialist.

Now I take one a day to keep me regular. I can get you the name and active ingredients if you're interested.

I suffered with IBS during my pregnancy. The only things that helped were trying to watch my triggers, like stress (easier said than done huh?) & I would take Tylenol to help ride it out. GL & FX it passes soon.

  • Which part of the IBS is troubling you the most? I haven't had the cramps/ spasms since I got pregnant. But when I noticed I'm getting constipated again, I beat the cycle by drinking iced coffee from dunkin doughnuts. It's a super yummy laxative for me, though I have to be near a bathroom within 15 min. Lol
  • I struggle more with horrible cramps and diahrea (sp?). I have occasional constipation, but not too bad. I know stress is a huge trigger for me, but that is so hard to control...

This! My symptoms subsided with my first pregnancy and this one too!!

I agree OP, speak with your doctor.

    Hope you feel better!!
  • I also have IBS and I've been struggling with straight constipation for 16 weeks. I take a stool softener every day and mirlax at least once a week. I'm still uncomfortably full of shit haha. I will try try that vegetable fiber tablet. I'm feeling so frustrated.
  • Lurker from Sept 15, what are they called?
  • I'll look at the specific ingredients tomorrow, but it was called Super Fiber, there were three ingredients with vegetable fiber in parenthasies on the back. Bolthouse juices also helped. I LOVE the Green Goodness one, it has lots of good nutrients from all kinds of things like spinache and blue green algea but you don't taste it all all and its got great fiber.
  • I ways keep probiotics on hand for flare ups. Watching what I eat, that's a major one. Low carb intake, light intake on gassy foods, yogurts/kefir....
I'm not a big medicine/prescription taker. I try to deal with everything as natural as possible before resorting to meds.
  • Assuming you've already cut out gluten and fodmaps?
  • I also suffer from IBS and anxiety, which can turn into a never ending circle. I've found to help my IBS is to make sure I'm taking fiber daily. I also never let my stomach get empty or over eat, both will upset the IBS. I suck on peppermint and drink ginger tea, ginger helps calm the spastic colon from, well spasing. Good luck, talk to your doctor about probiotics as well!
