"how a woman is spoken to and treated as she has her baby is much much more important than the actual mode of delivery."
I like this article because it is moderate. She acknowledges that experience is important without defending the extremes of birth plans that include dorm fridges and LED candles.
I almost cried! I dealt with mild PPD and PTSD for 2 years on my own because "you should be happy he's healthy." I didn't get help until I became pregnant again and was crying for days on end and had panic attacks at work. The experience does matter, holy shit does it matter, and well-meaning people invalidate what mom went through with the "healthy baby is all that matters" line.
I had no problems with the medical personnel or how I was treated. My labor was fast so it wasn't something I participated in but something I survived. So I'm not blaming anyone. But it's really damn hard to talk about when you're expected to say what a wonderful experience it was seeing your baby for the first time.
