I am 5 weeks postpartum and just had surgery today to remove the retained placenta in my uterus after birth. Was curious if any other c sectioners had this occur? Seems fairly rare since they have you open on the table at the time of the section - I would think they would be able to extract it all then??? My Dr is pretty vague on the whole thing....not sure if they are trying to avoid a lawsuit or what lol. Thanks in advance for any info or experiences!
This happened with my last. It was a doctor that I was not used to seeing, who tried multiple times in the OR to get me to change my mind about not wanting to have my tubes tied. I personally believe she did it on purpose, but I can't prove it. I had an in office D&E, and then an in hospital D&C done to get the rest of the placenta out. Luckily I didn't have to have a second surgery to remove it. It was horrible and we looked into suing the doctor, but in the end, it wasn't worth it. The doctors office wrote off the remainder of the bill after I threatened them with a lawsuit, and I had no lasting effects of it other than it took a longer time to get pregnant, but that may not have been due to the retained placenta (we don't know for sure). I have stated to my doctor that if the same doc is on-call, I will refuse to have her deliver this child.
