as Sunmer is approaching and I don't tan well nor want to damage my skin, but have my brothers wedding in a few weeks. Does anyone know if a safe tanning lotion or has used one? If this was discussed previously my apologies.
I'd love to have an answer to this... I put some on the other morning without giving it a second thought (forgot I was pregnant for a minute somehow!) and later that day realized that May not have been smart!
I'm not sure if it's been discussed on this board. I know I've seen this topic somewhere but I can't remember what board it was from. Hopefully some ladies here will have some answers for you!
I think they're safe as long as you don't use the spray ones because you can inhale the fumes that are harmful for your baby, but lotions are not absorbed enough to reach your bloodstream, they're design so you won't absorb them.
And I would also try it first, even if you've used it before, your skin is a lot more sensitive while pregnant. I normally use an after-shower oil for my eczema and it was giving me a horrible rash, so try if a couple of weeks before the wedding.
I have been using Mary Kay, but i feel like it has a slight smell to it. I can smell it, not sure if others can. My mom uses Jergens, and I've read the Jergens really improved that self tanning smell. She looks pretty good.
My research shows that Jergens unfortunately has this ingredient.
The only concern is whether the active ingredient, dihydroxyacetone (DHA), is able to penetrate the skin. Studies do not confirm that it can, but some health care providers encourage women to wait until after the first trimester, just to play it safe. DHA has been used in cosmetics since 1960 and no problems have been reported

I have spray tanned with both pregnancies, my place uses an organic veggie base for the brown color. Never had any issues! I also use jergens natural glow in between when I can get in to be sprayed. My doctor said it is safe!
@hilarym7 The Best self tanner I've ever used is Banana Boat Summer Color. Easy to apply, doesn't smell bad, never leaves me streaky! And it fades naturally. I would recommend it!
