Short and funneling cervix at 22 weeks

I'll be 22 weeks tomorrow. Found out a week ago that my cervix was 2cm and funneling so they told me to take progesterone suppositories and get it checked every 2 weeks until 36 weeks. Yesterday it was 0.9cm. So scared I'm going to lose my baby girl. We were supposed to go on our baby moon on Thursday (2 days from now) but decided to cancel our trip last night. So disappointed, so scared of what might happen. I work in a hospital, long days on my feet plus a hellish commute. They said nothing about bedrest. I am counting the days until 25 weeks and viability. I'm scared to start the nursery or buy any more baby stuff because I don't know what is going to happen.
Anybody else going through this? I had a LEEP procedure 14 years ago, when I was 20. Maybe that weakened my cervix? This is my first pregnancy.

That sounds very scary!!!! I would demand bed rest at this point. I think OBs can be dismissive before viability.

I have no idea but I think they can also put in a stitch to try and keep your cervix closed???

I would get a second opinion at the least!

My situation does sound similar to yours and I am suprised your doctors aren't doing more. I too had a LEEP many years ago and was being monitored because of that. At 18 weeks my doctors discovered my cervix had shortened below 2 cm (which is the lowest they felt comfortable with). I had a Cerclage put in the next day and also started progesterone suppositories. I am now 34 weeks pregnant.
I'm suprised your doctors have not suggested a Cerclage or at least modified bed rest of some sort. My doctors don't believe in bed rest but have me watching my activity level.

They said it was too late for cerclage for this pregnancy (usually latest they do it is 18 weeks), but I am seeing perinatologist tomorrow. I saw the obgyn today and begged her to let me have the next 3 weeks off work to at least try to make it to 25 weeks. We'll reassess then but I'll probably go back to work until 36 weeks or so (if I make it that far).
Progesterone suppositories make me so emotional! Started crying when the dr came into the room today. Feeling a little more hopeful, at least I know I am doing all I can to get through this scary time.
My pregnancy had been so mellow so far, then suddenly I'm high risk and we are terrified. But every day she's still inside is a victory.
There's not much the doctors can do, we're at a wait and see stage and just trying to stay positive...

I had a emergency cerclage at 19w5days when cervix was 7mm and funneling. A cerclage is not a fix all, but it has gotten me to 26w so far. No bed rest, and I returned to work as a RN (on my feet most of the day). My MFM at one time told me that they were "trying to get me to 28w", but at 25w told me to come back in 6w. Expecting water bag to funnel past cervix and break early. We are preparing for NICU time and hoping to deliver in July or Aug (rather than May or June). The worst part about the whole thing is all the unknowns-is it safe to travel away from NICU for a w/e away? We decided not worth the risk. Summer plans-will I still be pg then? Taking progesterone supplements nightly and taking things one day at a time. Huge learning curves, where you don't even know what questions to ask. It's all very scary. Hoping for the best for you and your LO.

Thinking of you and hoping and praying that you make it to 25 weeks .

I'm 30 weeks tomorrow and have been afraid of loosing this pregnancy since preterm labour at 18 weeks.

Thankfully my cervix is ok and I'm still going strong despite a bleed a week ago .

Stay strong for your little one. I was so afraid until I made it to 24 weeks. I'm almost shocked that I've made it to 30.

    Stay positive!!!

I had two bleeding episodes at 8 weeks and 12 weeks and was terrified of loosing my LO (I still am actually) An u/s was done after a week after my 2nd bleeding and discovered my cervix was shortening...it was 2.3cm at the time. 2 weeks after that it was 2cm so my OB put in a cerclage at 15 weeks 4 days and I was on bed rest for 2 weeks after. I was allowed to fly at 21 weeks to join my hubby so my LO will be born in a different country. I'm now 24 weeks, my OB said once I get to 28 weeks everything will be fine, so I am just praying to make it 28 weeks, everyday I am thankful for meeting another day safely or another week safely.

My cervix seems to be holding up and have very limited activity...no bending, no lifting, sitting with feet elevated etc.

Hopefully you can get some rest and take it easy.

Ladies! All of your replies make me feel so much better, seeing that I am not alone! Fingers crossed that we ALL have healthy babies with minimal time in the NICU!
I have been so public about this pregnancy on social media (after I did a CVS in first trimester and got into the "safe" zone, or what I thought was safe, ha!), now I don't know if I should share the complications I'm having... Just can't wait until I'm a little farther along and the baby has better odds.
Thank you all for commenting and cheering me up with your stories!!
Hoping for the best for all of us!

I'm 27 weeks and my cervix is now 10mm but was 9mm last week. I've been in hospital on bed rest for a week now, having progesterone pessaries and only allowed to get up for the toilet. Hope everything goes well for you.

The same thing happened to me with my twins. Cervix started shortening and funneling at 20 weeks. At 22 weeks I was put on strict bed rest (left hand side, 24/7, no sitting even to eat), but now my OB says there is no scientific evidence that bedrest actually helps, so if the same thing happens with this pregnancy they wouldn't prescribe it. Anyhow, I made it to 33.5 weeks with the twins. Best wishes for you!

My cervix measured .7 cm at 22.5 days and I had an emergent cerclage. I made it to 36 weeks with bed rest. It is absolutely not too late. I hope the peri gives you a plan. I'm honestly surprised they let you leave the hospital with a cervix that short.

The doctors here (Northern California, Bay Area) seem to be a bit dismissive. They aren't recommending cerclage or bedrest but I put myself on modified bed rest and took 2 weeks off work. Turned 23 weeks yesterday. Celebrating each week and the better chance for a stronger, healthier baby. Would love to go to term or at least make it to 30 weeks. So hard to know what will happen, the doctors say there is nothing we can do but wait and see...

I would put yourself on bed rest, my doctor would say that you definitely shouldn't be standing (at work). Are you seeing a high risk specialist or a regular OBGYN?

Good for you for taking some time off, always trust your gut over a doctor especially when you feel like they're being dismissive.

Hi ladies I haven't been on the bump in quite a while I mostly participated in the March 2015 forum.... How ever I came across this forum and I would like to share my story in hopes that it gives all of you ladies some hope throughout the remainder of your pregnancy!

At 13 wks I was bleeding for days I was threatening a miscarriage. Like many of you this was my first pregnancy... I was on bed rest for two weeks at that point. I went back to work and like OP I worked in a hospital as a nurse long hours on my feet. At my 20 week scan I found out my cervix was short as well it was 2cm and they said if it got any shorter than we would introduce the progesterone shot or suppositories. Every week I had an appt. my doctor wasn't really an advocate for bed rest so she put me out of work and on limited activity 30 minutes standing 30 minutes sitting intervals...

Every week I got an ultrasound and my cervix was holding on...

I reached 33 weeks and 4 days I begin to not feel my son move....

I was so afraid and worried I had a fetal Doppler and constantly checked his heart beat.

The day I made 34 weeks I still hadn't fekt him move and called my dr and she advised me to come in...

That day I was rushed for an emergency c section...

My son was born 3 pounds... He's so amazing and strong. He spent two and a half weeks in the nicu... Very trying time in my life but we made it through! Now he's about to be 4 months on June 9th and cooing and trying crawl and even teething!

The greatest thing I want you all to know is that my cervix had nothing to do with me going into preterm labor! I was developing preeclampsia which contributed to me needing an emergency c section...

I listened to my doctor I stayed off my feet as much as possible but I was still able to cook maintain my home and do small things around the house. I still had intervourse with my husband but working and standing long hours was a no no... I only pray for all of you ladies and especially op... And please stress your doctor about the need for you to be off of your feet! Sometimes you have to know what's best for you and tell your doctor what u think is best... Congrats to all of you! And the end product after all of the stress is going to be so amazing and so worth it! Many blessings!

I am having the same issue I found out when I was 22 weeks pregnant that was 2 cm dilated and I had funneling membranes. They put me on progesterone to help keep my cervix from dilating further. I asked about the cerclage but they said since I was having contractions it wasn't a good idea because the attention would make my cervix rip and I would dilate more, So that may be the reason they're not offering you a cerclage because you're already dilated. Hang in there I am now 24 weeks and 1 day, I put myself on bed rest and only do minimal walking around the house it's hard and stressful but you have to stay positive, I think that is has got me through this far. My prayers go out to you and I hope we can be allies in the situation that we find ourselves in. One thing you should ask your doctor about is steroid injections to help the babies lungs develop I receive my last one today it's two shots that you get either in your leg or your bottom that will help the baby breath on its own if you were to deliver early

I found out I had a short cervix at 20 weeks and had a cerclage put in the next day . I was also put on progesterone suppositories and bed rest . I worked for retail and hotel at the time which meant long hours on my feet and the doc said to stay out of work so that I don't lose anymore cervix . I go back next Wednesday I am 21 weeks now . I would take it easy on your feet . They also said I couldn't drive or go up and down the stairs too much . Be careful and good luck !

Hi, my situation is similar to yours. At 20 weeks my cervix was measured at 1.5 cm, 21 weeks 1.0cm and 22 weeks .7 cm. I was admitted in the hospital and had a cerclage the next day. I'm home now on strict bed rest. My doctor said it's extremely important to stay off your feet, so I would give you the same advice. Is it possible for you to change doctors? I'm from New York City, and my doctor said they don't recommend a cerclage after 24 weeks. Try to se if you can get another doctor or so who is willing to do it since you are only 18 weeks. I wish you the best of luck, and I'll keep you in my prayers.

I'm currently 22 weeks. When I went in for my second trimester ultrasound at 19 weeks my cervix was at 2.6 so my OB started me on Progesterone and scheduled me with high risk OB. At 20 weeks my cervix was at 2.5 so I had to wait two more weeks to check again (today). Today at 22 weeks my cervix was at 1.9 so now I'm told to make the choice between a Pessary and a cerclage. Hoping for the best and I hope this helps you in some way.

17 weeks this past Thursday and cervix measuring 2.5cm. Had a cerclage done the next day. I was having cervical lengths checked every 2 weeks since I was 8 weeks pregnant because of previous cervical surgeries (LEEP,cold knife cone, and D&C) was measuring great at 3.5 cm at first then got all the way up to 5.6cm at 16 weeks. Week 17 went way down to 2.5 which is when I got the cerclage (3 days ago). Heading back to the office tmrw to see how well it's holding. First time pregnancy but feel better that i had the cerclage... Dr told me when I first got pregnant that there was a very high chance I would need a cerclage bc of my past surgical hx. Back to work on Tues!!!
