big baby?!

I went in last week for my 34 week appointment and I am measuring at 39 weeks and my OB said that baby boy is looking to be weighing at 7lbs. My first baby was born full term weighing in at 9lbs 4oz. We scheduled a repeat c section for June 19, a week before my DD. The week before 6/19 we scheduled a growth ultrasound. Shouldn't they be doing an ultrsound sooner than that? Curious if anyone else has gone through this??!

Is there a particular reason for the growth scan? Do you have gestational diabetes or something along those lines that makes the growth of baby an issue?

It's hard to know if they "should" do it sooner (mostly because I'm not a doctor) but also because you don't say why you're having a c-section and why they are doing a growth scan in the first place. 

If they're doing a growth scan as part of routine practice before a c-section then I would think they'd want to do it as close as possible to the surgery. But again, I'm no doctor so....

I'm having a repeat c section because I have a small pelvis And I carry big babies. Baby now is measuring at around 7 lbs. And I'm measuring at 39 weeks when I'm actually 34 weeks. Growth scan is being done because baby is measuring big

If it were me, unless I had GD and/or were measuring five weeks ahead the entire time, I wouldn't worry about doing it sooner.  I would think the only concerns that would be helped if they did it sooner were if a c-section needed to be scheduled (which it already is, so rock on), or if you were truly that far off on your conception date all along, but if that were the case, you would have been measuring off the entire time, not just now.  

FWIW from all of my conversations with my doc, they're far more concerned if you were measuring under, not over.  I've been measuring two to three weeks ahead the entire time, so I've asked a lot about it.  And she told me not to take too much stock in the weight measurements because they tend to be quite inaccurate overall.

I wouldn't really worry about it either. Even if your baby is big, unless you are having complications/GD, you are having a repeat c-section anyway so I wouldn't think there would be that much concern...

FWIW they told me my daughter was going to be huge at every ultrasound they did (and there were many cause she was footling breech right up till her due date). She was born on her due date at 7 lbs 5.6 oz. Ultrasounds aren't that accurate for weights anyway. I'm having a RCS this time also, and I haven't heard anything yet about another ultrasound, but I'm already scheduled. If I go into labor early then I'll head in when I start having contractions.
