ive bought them all; the cushiony, the mesh, and they all looked horrible in my crib. Maybe my bed is too high for the crib. Anyone having a issue finding a bumper pad?
Ive used bumpers with both of my kids and they turned out just fine. I purchased mine from babies r us online. Its ridiculous how it is nowadays. Everything causes cancer and everything causes SIDS. This generation has become so paranoid.

I generally go along with this sentiment, but I just can't imagine going ahead with using them after knowing the risk and current recommendation, and then my baby dying of SIDS. I know that's dramatic, and I usually hate fear type reactions, but for some reason this particular question just seems like it can't be worth it.
Anyway, it seems like OP actually HAS found and bought "all" of the bumpers available, but isn't satisfied for some mysterious and incomprehensible reason. Possibly to do with the height of her bed [insert that shrugging shoulders emoticon guy here].
I agree that there are some things this generation takes overboard ...... But. Messing with possible science over SIDS..... I mean .... It doesn't hurt anything or your baby to NOT use them. Your baby isn't in any harm without them. Just some logic.
should I add this on FFFC? What are bumpers even for? I've never seen them used on a crib of any babies around me or any families I nannied for. Is it because of the crib slats?

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.

My husbands indonesian, 3 of his siblings died from what he now suspects to be SIDS, his mother is now learning most things she did are now massive no nos. I'm sure back then co sleeping was just ridiculous to suggest baby could die from this. Whilst your kids may be fine, others may not be and this could impact their deaths. Don't take the research and information for granted.

When babies get older they can move around in their sleep and get limbs caught b/t the slats. Then sometimes they cry about it. So, at that time, once they are scooting around and aren't swaddled and are just more mobile (with intention), if it really becomes a problem some parents weigh the risks/benefits and decide to use them without so much side-eye from other parents (I've heard!). Most people think putting them in a tiny baby's bed is pointless and dangerous (or that the risks far outweigh the benefit, which is really just that the crib looks more fluffy and "cute"). WTH do I know, I'm a FTM, but this is what I've gathered during my internet research .
I used bumpers with DD and had no issues. By the time DS came around the sentiment was no bumpers because of SIDS. I took them off the crib and never had an issue. I was worried about his arms getting caught or bumping his head but this was never an issue. I say save your money and just go bumper free.
I'm nervous to use them because anything that chances sids just scares the crap out of me. There was a really good discussion about the mesh bumpers a few weeks ago that you might search for. They're not super cute but they come in lots of solid colors. My sister used one as my niece got older because she was a wild sleeper and would stick her arms and legs through the slats. You may choose to do what some of the ladies on that board recommend and wait till LO is older and see if you even need one. As dangerous as the old school bumpers seem to be, I don't even know why they still offer them.
Just don't use them. I put them in her bed for now, because they came with the bedding and make it look pretty, but once she is here I'll take them out. We didn't use them with DD and she never had a problem getting anything caught in the slats.
You may not care that they might cause SIDS but my sons pediatrician also mentioned that it's important to be able to see the baby from a distance with bumper pads you can't do that. You literally have to walk up to the crib.
I'm not using bumpers in my crib. Whether it's being overly paranoid or not, I just go with whatever they recommend and if there is reason to believe it can be a contributing factor of causing SIDS then I would rather not use them. Heck, my mom used a dresser drawer to put us in when we were babies (obviously she would take it completely out of the dresser)...so I'm not too worried about not having bumpers. To each their own
I don't have them...or any fancy crib bedding at all. Just fitted crib sheets and mattress pads. I figure once she's older and mobile, if she starts getting limbs stuck in the slats I may buy the mesh kind. But by then SIDS risk is much lower.
I just don't really get the need to have cutesy crib bedding when they're not supposed to have anything in there with them anyway. And the fitted sheets are just going to get peed on so I'm not about to buy anything fancy.
I'm here. I've been reading about the bumper pads and that's why I've tried the mesh breathable type but they too don't seem right or tight enough. I want to just leave as is; but are the exposed rails just as dangerous? I've thought maybe her arms or legs could get stuck in between.

She will not be moving around for a few months. I'm personally taking a watch and see approach to how she sleeps. I had one wild sleeper that would always get his arm/legs stuck. But this was also at the point where he was crawling and could easily move his head and roll over.
Re: Help! I can't find bumper pads.
Please don't use/buy those. They are incredibly dangerous for your child & and suffocation hazard. Check out the AAP if you don't believe me.

Good luck with that, OP!
