  • I have had a hard time cycling now because the dumb machine won't recline from totally
upright at the gym so my legs hit my stomach (annoying!) but have switched over to swimming and prenatal yoga! Loving it! Although many times I just think... "Namaste here and eat ice cream on the couch." You take some and leave some right?
  • I am 22 weeks and have been doing crossfit 4 times a week since the 2nd trimester. Tried doing a little during the 1st trimester but too sick and tired. I feel great since the 2nd trimester and.i just make sure to listen to my body and take breaks or modify movements when needed. I lift heavy still. I feel like the 20 lb rule is a joke especially when I have a 30 pound 3 year old. But I just really do what feels good for me. My dr knows what I do and told me I don't have to change anything and knows I know when to stop so I am just careful. I can't run. It does hurt so I've cut that out.
I have done crossfit for almost 6 years now so it's not anything new for my body.
Good job on all the women out there still working hard!
I worked out during my entires 1st pregnancy and it really made my pregnancy awesome. I ended up having a c section because my baby was breached but I was back in the gym after 4 weeks and recovered extremely fast.
Good luck to all you strong moms out there!
  • I'm a little over 21 weeks, i still exercise frequently, I don't run as far or as fast as I used too. but i make up for it with bicycling and a good fast walk on a treadmill with a high incline

  • 25 weeks now.  I am a runner normally but I was way too sick my first tri to run and didn't want to start up right in the middle of my pregnancy.  I do workout DVDs 4x/week- prenatal strength training and prenatal yoga.  I also ride an exercise bike once weekly, walk as much as possible (I take walks on my lunchbreak when I can) plus occasionally on the treadmill at home with an incline.  I do some form of exercise at least 5-6 times per week.  I worked out this often prior to pregnancy but it was more intense.

This is my 2nd baby and I followed a similar schedule w/ my first.  I think it made my labor easier and my recovery easier.  I was back to walking & approved core work within a couple of days and back to regular workouts by the 6 week mark (once cleared by OB).  I waited until 8 weeks to start running again.

  • Good afternoon, fit mamas! Any of you have juicers? I've been making some small, tasty juices at home by mixing pasteurized blood orange/grapefruit juice with some organic fruits and veggies like carrots, celery, apples, cucumber, kale, and spinach. They're a great to fill in the blanks. Here's a nice little article with a few recipes! Don't forget to thoroughly wash your produce!  :)

I've been juicing more lately. Previously I stuck to almost entirely vegetable blends but l have been naughty in recent weeks and added a lot more fruit to make them more appealing!

Here's more prenatal yoga! Just did the legs and butt one.  Warning: it's super fast-paced! I don't know how she moves that quickly.

  • 28 weeks today, and before this week I've managed to stay fairly active. Nothing fancy, but I'd walk 30-40 minutes per day, 5x per week, and half of the walk would be at an incline. This past week, though, I can't get through the walk without feeling horrible! My heart races, feet/ankles swell up, and I'm beyond exhausted. I had to come home and put my feet up for a few days straight, because I had pretty bad pitting edema. My blood pressure is great, and I'm healthy overall. I just can't do these walks anymore! Anyone else hit a wall like this?

I hit this wall early on. I found myself short of breath and had massive swelling from the beginning of the second trimester. My blood pressure and everything else they worry about is all perfect. It's just the luck of the draw I guess. Sorry I can't offer any helpful suggestions, I can just sympathize.

Home girl needs to slow down over there! Haha

Thank you for sharing, I've been meaning to look for a good prenatal yoga vid.

I've had energy levels up and down since the beginning but just this week (27weeks) I've had to slow myself way down also. I haven't had swelling but this morning while I was instructing a spin class I got really shaky and had to tell my class to go faster than me. So I feel your pain. I think it's just the timing. Every one of my active friends said it was the start of the 3rd tri when they couldn't keep up the way they were before. My suggestion for you would be to do something different like a low pace stationary bike (might help with the swelling since you'll be sitting?)

I hit the wall in the first trimester, then again a few weeks ago (hello naps). Swimming and yoga have worked wonders for me.
  • I love this post. So great to see women staying active throughout pregnancy. It's the best thing we can do for our LO as well as ourselves. I'm 27 weeks today and still doing crossfit 2x/week and jogging 2x/week. Some days I hurt all over and have to scale back, and other days I feel pretty good. I think the most important thing is to stay hydrated and eat properly after u exercise. This will play a big roll in how fast you recover from your exercises. I've noticed that if I don't eat right and hydrate after a work out I'm too tired the next day to do anything.
  • I've hit the wall a few times - you just have to push through it if at all possible (listen to your body first and foremost though). I've been feeling really good lately and still managing my 6x a week, with weight training and cardio. Some things are getting tough - really having to modify my abdominal workouts now that I'm in the 3rd tri and push-ups are getting harder with that big belly pulling me down :p
  • I'm super excited right now - with my first I quit running at 26 weeks after a trip to L&D for contractions after a run. It was time to stop - I was getting bad sciatica after runs and I was slowing down so much walking made more sense. But I'm almost 27 weeks now and I've been able to run 3-4 miles three times a week still. Winning!
  • Sciatica put a stop to my running at 26 weeks now at 29 i find myself doing simple weight sets, long walks....and really intense napping!
  • It's late to start but about 2 weeks ago I started exercising. It's not much, but I'm walking about 30 minutes one or two times a day. It's helping me keep my energy levels up and I'm doing well with it.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • @VexedMommy it's never too late to start! You go!!

@thefithuntress swimming is my new favorite thing (in addition to yoga!)!! That weightlessness while swimming laps is the BEST! I highly recommend it to anyone struggling with swelling, etc... And it keeps you cool while working out which is always nice!
  • Been hitting the gym again after realizing my boyfriend never discontinued our membership like he thought. I was running daily, few weeks ago I got 14.5 miles for the week in. It was great. Lately I've been at the gym using the stairs (which is fine cuz the heat has been miserable) and lifting. I wasn't going as hard lifting at home, unfortunately I can never get quite as into it here, so I love the gym for making helping me really get it. I find that even if I don't have the energy to go I force myself and I feel much better afterwards. Trying to stay as physically active as possible till my doctor says stop. Hopefully I can go till labor, that's the plan but I notice daily how much more uncomfortable I get. I wishhhh I could get into yoga, I watch the videos and think omg I bet that feels amazing but I just can't seem to really get myself into it. I love this thread and seeing everyone be so active though.
  • I stopped running around 24 weeks due to pelvic period like pain ( which honestly may have been contractions) and it has been the hardest thing mentally for me. I've always been a runner...walking now and some elliptical but man, it really bums me out! Never been in to yoga. Need some other good options!
