Having trouble sleeping

I know a lot of us have had difficulty getting baby to sleep but I've finally gotten LO into a good routine and he's been asleep by 9 for several nights in a row. And he sleeps for 5 hours straight. The problem now is I can't sleep. I went to bed at 930 lady night but was awake until his next feeding at 1230. It was so frustrating! Here was my chance to catch up on sleep and I couldn't turn my brain off. I just kept waiting for him to wake up and then I found myself thinking about having to drop him off at daycare in two weeks when I start back work. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

Re: Having trouble sleeping

  • This is me. It's so annoying because my SO works shifts so doesn't get home until midnight, by which point I could have had a solid few hours of sleep but it never happens. I'm awake until he comes home, we chat for a bit and go to bed at 1am. I'm usually lying awake until at least 2 and the latest my little one wakes up is 5.

I have the added problem of not being able to go back to sleep once my baby has woken me up and then feeling exhausted throughout the day. So frustrating as his Dad seems to be able to sleep anytime, anywhere and with a moment's notice!

One thing I will say is that the days where I have taken the baby out for a long walk or had a more active day, I tend to drop off much easier and earlier. If you can get your body to the point of physical exhaustion then that will prevail over any unwelcome thoughts keeping you awake.

Other than that just try to catch up with sleep when you can, maybe a nap late morning or in the afternoon? I'm sure once you're back at work and into a routine you will sleep better.

    Try not to worry :)
