First Major Freakout...not cool but happy ending

I've been feeling pretty good the past few days-smells bother me but no puking. The sore boobs had eased up and the heartburn wasn't as bad. Then this morning when I got to work, major spotting. Bright red and IMO, way more than was ok. I freaked out. Called the dr office & was told a nurse would call me back. Texted DH and my sister (she did her ob/gyn nurse practitioner rounds a few months ago) and they were both very supportive and told me to calm down. Uh, how!?! This is weird and scary!

The nurse did call me back an hour later and got more info-yes I was a little crampy. It did seem like it was slowing down. They said they'd talk to the dr and call me back. At 12:30, they called and said they could fit me in for an u/s at 1:30. They were running behind but I had pretty much quit bleeding by then. The u/s showed a baby, measuring 8w2d (I'm shown as 7w6d but that's fine) with a STRONG heartbeat of 167! So all's well but it sure made for a scary morning...especially since today's my bday. It was the best present-seeing our little peanut on the screen, seeing that heartbeat and getting the first picture all with DH by my side.

Sorry that was long but I needed to release this in an environment where folks understand!

  • That's so scary, glad it worked out in the end!

  • I've had similar things going on for about two weeks. During this week's u/s they found a small pooling of blood in my uterus that's causing it. It's far from the baby & baby is doing well with a strong heartbeat. Apparently I just have to wait for the blood to drain. I have two friends who had similar experiences during their first trimester & both have healthy babies. I totally freaked out when I first started bleeding too, but apparently it's much more common than people think & not always a sign of impending miscarriage as anything you Google will lead you to believe!
  • That's scary!  I'm glad everything is ok :)
