Devastated-what is happening inside of me?

I woke up to brown discharge which turned heavier and darker within a few hours this morning. No cramps. Went to doc. It was awful. Saw the midwife who said she had found a heartbeat and this was a "viable pregnancy." She wanted another look so I had a trans-vaginal us done with a tech. they saw a sac, a pole a "corpus luteum" but no baby. No heartbeat. Took blood and ordered another ultrasound for Monday. Bleeding has seemed to stop. It's never turned bright red. But I know they should have seen a baby today. I know all my dates. I know when I o'ed and got a postive pregnancy test. Now I just wait.
