back labor??

Any mom's out there who had to deal with back labor? How did you manage the pain? I'm in the process of being induced... about 10 hours in and the pain in my back is the worst part. So far all I can do for the pain is breathe through it and put a heating pad against it

Re: back labor??

  • Honestly, I was glad I wasn't in labor long because I agree, the back labor was awful!! Sadly, I have no tips but I honestly feel for you.

  • I'm creepin' from June '15. Counter pressure and getting on your hands and knees may help a bit. If you have a partner in the room with you, tell him/her to really apply some hard, constant pressure, following your cues of course. Also, it may not be possible right now, but using a tennis ball to apply pressure has been known to work wonders, too.

  • I had back labor with my daughter and it was the worst! I feel so bad for you! I hope it goes away soon! Good luck and congrats!
  • I had pretty bad back labor too! My boyfriend put pressure on the lower back when I had a contraction until I got the epidural. It helped me!
  • I had back labor with my daughter - what seemed to help was getting on my hands and knees in the bed and applying ice packs on my lower back, I would alternate ice / no ice every other contraction and when there was no ice on my back my nurse was applying pressure by rubbing my back - I was in back labor almost the entire time and I feel for you, it is incredibly uncomfortable - good luck, its so worth it!!
  • I had back labor. I couldn't find relief but I know it hurt worse for me when I was on my side. I had to lay propped up on my back with my knees bent
  • No experience here. But my sister had back labour. The sterile water injections made a HUGE difference for her if you are open to more of a medical intervention. Once she had that she was able to birth her son naturally.
  • I just got through the back labor part.. I am currently in the hospital at 7 cm ... I'm sorry but I begged for a epi. I couldn't do it ... good luck.
  • If you hve access to a birthing ball try sitting or leaning over it and moving your hips around!

I was induced as well and all of my pain was in my back and my thighs (weird). The only thing that helped was my husband applying crazy pressure to my back, but even that didn't really do much. You have some good suggestions here- I hope one of them works for you!!
