BBT accuracy

I took my temp this morning, and I really thought AF was due and I'd get a temp below my coverline (97.76). (I'm on my post-d&e wacky cycle, though, so all bets are off.) Anyway, I took my temp again immediately, partly out of frustration and partly because I wanted to confirm that I can trust the temps. I didn't get up or move around. The first temp was 97.97, the second was 98.08.

This was like seeing the Great Oz behind the curtain. The illusion is shattered. I've been clinging to these temps like a lifeline, and now I don't trust them at all. I did some googling to see if some thermometers are more accurate than others, but the advice I saw said not to pay extra for a fancy one because they aren't more accurate.

I'll still temp, because it is my best chance to get a rough idea of my cycle, but I'm so disappointed in the accuracy.

9/5/18 Diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve (4-5 follicles, one ovary had none and was very atrophied)
RE says the low egg count is likely causing my recurrent pregnancy loss. Less eggs results in more aneuploidy.

    I bought the thermometer in January. ...Could the battery be getting low that quickly?  I'm grasping at straws here.

    Who knows,  This morning my temperature plummeted by 1.2 degrees, and I took it 3 times in a row with 3 different temperatures, all around the same but different.  I think maybe the painkillers I took last night messed with my temp this morning because I don't think AF is going to show her face today for some reason :\

    Wow, that's a big drop. I just checked my chart, and my temp didn't drop the morning after I took two oxycodone. I took one oxy the next night and it dropped about half a degree the following morning and bounced back where it was the morning after that. I'm not sure if that info helps you any, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

    I'm wishing for yours too ha ha.  Thanks I don't think I'll take any painkillers tonight as I'm feeling a lot better than I was yesterday so we will see what it does tomorrow.

    For what it is worth I also read that the more expensive thermometers aren't any more accurate, but I did read that if you take it vaginally it makes it more accurate, because you don't risk your saliva or air messing with it, and honestly I'm so out of it when I take it I have to take it again because it fell out of my mouth ha ha.  The only thing with vaginally is you have to wait for a fresh cycle to start charting it that way.

    My DH already thinks my charting is unnecessary and my alarm is annoying on weekends. This morning after the second temp was higher, I mentioned that it's more accurate if you put it in your vagina. He thought I was insane. I think I'll stick with my mouth. :)

    Update: The battery in my bbt thermometer died a few days ago, so maybe the inaccuracy was due to it getting low. I bought a new battery last night. I'll have to experiment again.
