Genes...

my DH's mom is a identical twin and his dad is a fraternal twin. I was wondering if anybody else has a similar situation and if so did you have twins?I'm really curious how the genetics /odds come into play when it comes to twins. Thanks

Re: Genes...

  • I think I remember reading that fraternal twins is likely to run in families. Something like it's more likely a women releases more than one egg. I can't remember what the term for it is.

I could be totally wrong though...

  • Fraternal tends typically run along the woman side (more likely to release more than one egg). As far as I can tell by my reading, there is still a lot not understood about what causes an egg to split- is it totally random? Genetics? They don't seem to know. Let us know if you do have twins. That would be exciting.
  • Thanks!!! :) I definitely will
  • My sister had twins last year and the doctor said it's the woman who carries the gene but I still think anything is possible!!! Good luck hopefully it's twins!! :)
  • @ashricci8 I have heard that too. My $$ is on my DH's sister to be the lucky one to have twins but I'm grateful for however many I'm given.
  • Only if you are a fraternal twin or fraternal twins running in your family. The release of two eggs is genetic. I am an identical twin and I don't necessarily believe I will carry twins. It is a random mutation that happens early in the embryonic stage.
