I have a Reed so this is the spelling I prefer. It's a family name for us so we didn't even consider the other spelling but I also think it's more intuitive. They ranked similarly (Reid is slightly more popular #259: #317).
I prefer Reid. I also associate Reed with water and band instruments. Additionally, I think it's nice to have more variety in the letters when it's such a short name.
