Pessary induction?

4 days over due and now induction is starting to become an option. My midwife suggested the membrane sweep first which I'm not keen on.... Then she said if I didn't want that, I could use a pessary? Do they bring on a more painful labor like people say the drip does? Or is it a relatively 'natural' labor just nudged on by this pessary?

Re: Pessary induction?

  • I've never heard of it, but a sweep is really not that bad.

  • I'd go for the sweep. Had one yesterday at 40w5d hoping it helps speed things up to avoid induction.

    Do you mean pitocin maybe??
  • I had three sweeps. They were uncomfortable, but nothing terrible. They didn't work for me, but one might push you into labor. I'd rather have a hundred more sweeps than just go right for chemical/hormonal induction.
