is it safe to drink and make Kombucha while pregnant? I am 7 weeks pregnant today and I have had a miscarriage once before. I just want to make sure it's completely safe before doing it. Thank you for your help!
Dr. Google says if you were drinking it before pregnancy than its ok, but don't start drinking it during pregnancy if you haven't before. I have no idea what it is though, so that's all I can tell ya.
Agreed with PP. It's such a small amount of alcohol it's metabolized in your system and never touches baby. I love Kombucha for my nausea and constipation.
I've stopped homemaking it but would buy the bottled stuff at the store- not the black bottles that you have to be 21 to purchase. If it makes you at all worried just skip it though.
I asked the first OB I went to and got a response of, "don't know." Needless to say, I'm changing OBs. ;-) I figure if I have to give up hot baths and the sauna, I can give up the Kombucha habit too.
I think most bottles say not while pregnant @Embuzz247 it's a strong fermented tea drink. You have a tea sit out with a culture for a few weeks until it gets carbonated and strong. Gotta try it when not ktfu
It's safe to drink while pregnant, but if you weren't drinking it before, stick with very small amounts. The alcohol levels are very small, GT Classic is higher than their Enlightened version, but there are tons of people in recovery in the FB group Kombucha Nation who drink it without incident.

Interesting! I'm a huge tea drinker usually so I'll have to check it out after baby.
I like a Kombucha from time to time, but I have decided to avoid it during pregnancy. Normally when I drink it, I can feel it relaxing my body, almost like it flows through my limbs. I drink maybe one glass of wine or champagne a year, so the little alcohol content in the Kombucha really has an effect on me.
The stuff you make at home only has about 1% alcohol in it as long as you don't over ferment it. And usually u can taste if it's too strong. My parents make it n I always have a glass when I come over. It helps settle my stomach. I think as long as you know the source, you are ok. The bottles in store say not during pregnancy because they have to protect themselves from getting sued. I honestly think it's really good for you. Just don't go overboard.
I love kombucha, and I was drinking it before pregnancy (I love the Chia kind!) but it didn't mix well with the Metformin I was taking so I had to stop. I'm a little afraid to start again at 9 weeks, so I think I'll wait until after baby even though the enlightened version is supposed to be safe.
