Ferrous Sulfate is the mineral for iron. Its not uncommon among the board members for some of us to be taking an iron supplement, including myself. There have already been a couple of threads where this was discussed, I used the search function and here is the link to the results I got - https://forums.thebump.com/search?cat=18492471&adv=1&search=low+iron
Just remember that calcium (such as milk or the calcium in your prenatal vitamin) prevents absorption of iron, and vitamin C helps absorption. Space your iron apart from other stuff by about an hour on each side if you can. I usually take my prenatal with breakfast, and an hour after finishing breakfast will take my iron pill with a cup of oj. Then I'm usually hungry again an hour or so after that, so it works out. >-
Tea will also prevent absorption! Lots of interactions. I take it bc they say I need it but I know that it's probably not doing much lol. It's so hard to increase blood levels with a daily iron pill.
I've always been anemic so I have to take it. It made me sick at first so eat before you take it. Even after taking it for months my iron is still a little low. But that's just me. I hope it works great for you and baby :-)
Thanks y'all! I was a little worried about taking it because I try not to take anything! I know it's just a supplement but it still scares me a little! I did take it though because I know I need it!
