Note About Babylist Registry

Hey everyone. I decided to make a test purchase from my Babylist registry and wanted to fill you ladies in on the process.

When someone clicks on the item they want to purchase, the only option available is to 'reserve' the item. When you reserve it, you'll see a prompt that says Babylist is a wish list, and it only provides suggested stores for where to make your purchase. You still have to go to that individual website to actually make your purchase. Then after you make the purchase, you have to go back to Babylist to mark the item as purchased.

It turns out that it's a little more tedious than I realized and will likely confuse some people (just because it's different than most registries). Although I still personally love the flexibility and large variety that it offers, I will be registering at Target also so that people can either go in store or just go to one website to make their purchases. You can link your other registries to Babylist if you want, so that's helpful.

My test purchase was a gift for daddy. We're both first-time parents and he is taking this daddy business like a champ. He gets the manly diaper bag as a surprise present, he's a hopeless Chargers fan haha!!

Re: Note About Babylist Registry

  • Thanks for the info! I started my registry on babylist too. It sounds like the biggest problem would be for people to actually remember to go back and mark the item as purchased. I'm going to try and keep my registry small and hopefully it works out. Everything I want is spread out over like 5 stores..figures

    Yep, that's what I did.

I put the random stuff on Babylist, stuff I found on Etsy or Amazon etc, since you would have to buy those things online anyway. Kept that list pretty small. Then all the necessity items are on my Target list, and it is synced with Babylist.

I also checked with them at Babylist and turns out they don't have a completion discount (since all your items are coming from different stores and Babylist can't change those prices). They do have 'registry rewards' though, that are like 10% off at certain stores or on certain items etc. So far the rewards offers I've received are honestly not at any places I would shop, so I don't find them useful yet, but hopefully there are more by the time baby arrives.

Fill us in on your experience when the time gets closer :-)

  • I did the Babylist thing a few weeks ago and got my mom to test it out. She found it super confusing, and she's really comfortable online. The only reason we're doing a registry is for older relatives who were against gift cards or money when we got married, and I know they won't remember to go BACK to Babylist after purchasing. I deactivated my account and did Babies R Us instead (there aren't many places to register for baby stuff in Canada).

Where did you get that diaper bag? My husband 'needs' one in his team!
  • I love the idea of a daddy bag! I just decided right now to get one as a surprise, pack it with cute stuff, and take it to the hospital for DH. Omg, thank you for posting this!

Sorry the registry isn't all you had hoped! I guess it is nice to have options for gift givers. I just did an Amazon one which is kinda boring but it is straight forward. Hopefully the new registry combo will be easier to keep track of!
  • Glad you said something...i just ordered my shower invitations and I did a baby list registry, thank God I still have a chance to edit it before it goes to print....
  • Thanks for the tip! and cute daddy bag! I had considered doing something like that, but remembered trying to do a universal registry for my wedding and it was a hassle then; some items I would register for would be unavailable in store when people would try to go get it for me. I think this time I will stick to Target and Amazon.

Thanks for sharing! I'm pretty sure I'm going to register at target and either bbb or bru. I've heard better things about bbb but the travel system color I want is only sold at bru. Ugh decisions!
  • Thanks for posting this. I have been a little concerned about how easy baby list is to use as well. Especially since I will have some older relatives that are not very internet savvy. I found a handful of cute things from land of nod and some other websites that I would like to keep but the majority of items were from baby's r us.

I don't need a registry this time but if I did that would be a deal breaker for me. Ease is priority or no one will use it.

I'm glad I read this - I'd considered making one through BabyList but if it isn't going to be easy, then it is out!

I've got too many sweet old ladies in my life who cannot operate a computer/internet/smartphone to save their souls. I think we're going to BRU and Target - there aren't enough BBB store locations near us to make it convenient for anyone.

Yep it would definitely be a no-go for older ones!! We're doing target for necessities since we already have all the big baby gear. Everyone loves Target ;-)

I think this is essentially what we will be doing as well - give people 2 options with a variety of items on each. BRU isn't exactly convenient for lots of people but Target is ALWAYS convenient (they're so smart like that)

We have no big items leftover from previous babies (my stepkiddos are 9 & 6, and my DS was adopted from day one so...yeah) so we're basically starting over. My MIL tried to pass along some of SS's stuff...but it's weird. I don't want the things that the ex-wife picked out. Just...ew.

    So, registry-ing I will go!

  • I did the myregistry.com for my wedding and practically no one bought off it. It did bring you to the website I picked the item from but people had to go back and confirm they bought it
  • I did Amazon and Target and I did add some items from other sites to my Amazon list now I'll have to check it out and see how complicated it is to order those things.

  • Amazon does a similar thing to Babylist--it's called Amazon Universal. There is a button where they can click "mark as purchased". I'm liking it better because most of the stuff on that registry is from Amazon anyway so it's easier. And doing a target one too for the few people who are bad at the Internet.

I did my whole registry on Amazon- no stores. I added things from pottery barn, restoration hardware, ikea, etc. I've gotten almost everything on my list except for like 3 or 4 big ticket items. It's worked great and everyone has said how easy it was, no problem making purchases or finding the registry. I am very pleased with the whole process for anyone thinking about Amazon!
