It's the iron in prenatals. I switched to gnc prenatals without iron and it has helped a ton. I just eat more spinach and foods with iron. Also take a fish oil tablet. Dr approved all this. I feel 100 percent better:) also warm lemon water in morning works like a charm
Last pregnancy I had to take Colace plus Miralax and use glycerin suppositories. I even drank 3-4 liters of water a day so fluids wasn't an issue. Pregnancy is rough, try not to strain too much or you might get hemmies (BTDT).
Ugh the hemorrhoids!!! I've had them my whole life(pretty much) and have also had bm issues most of my life. However the last few years of eating healthy, doing yoga and going to the gym has helped. Hemmies shrank and bm every day... Well.... The last few weeks have been hell on my intestines!! I have been going once or twice a week. I finally went today, and my hemmies decided it was a good day to show up in full force! Needless to say, it was a bloody mess... But, I went!!! And I feel so much better!!!!'
Colace or its generic equivalent is safe during pregnancy and nursing. Start slow, one a day, and if necessary you can work up to 3 per day. Miracles happen.
Edited to add: I've taken one every night during this and my 2 previous pregnancies and all is well, I have so far been able to head off the constipation. Stop it before it starts.
This pregnancy and last I took a probiotic every day, as I do every day when not pregnant. I've never experienced this pregnancy constipation a lot of you speak of. Maybe I'm just lucky, but it can't hurt to try a probiotic for a few weeks to see if it helps. I get mine from Trader Joes.
I'll also add that when I was exclusively nursing my then 3 month old, I ran out of probiotics and then went out of town so I went a few days without them and not only did I get constipated, but my poor son did too. BAD. He went 4 days without pooping when he usually pooped 4x a day at that age. He was in so much pain. Again, it all could've been coincidence...but I won't be running out again!
I can't make a signature with a picture and/or a ticker for the life of me...
I had not been able to really poop well for weeks, but last weekend I was finally able to start eating normally again and I experienced quite possibly the biggest poop of my life. It was painful and I bled, and it hurt just to fart for several days afterwards so I'm thinking that's quite possibly hemorrhoids, but it was SUCH a relief and the pain has died down now so I really feel like it was worth it. Prune juice has helped me at times, but the entire first trimester it seemed to take a full 24 hours or more to take affect.
Now that I'm eating again it's gotten better. And I always know I have my prune juice option!
Ah, the joys of pregnancy... So many things they don't tell you. But still totally worth it, I can't handle how much I love this baby already.
Before i got prego i would go weeks with out going #2 and never felt bloated or sick. The first few weeks into my pregnancy i went every day like clock work. Now if i miss a day i feel horrible and my stomach hurts so bad. Ive read what everyone has put and i will be trying some things out thank yall!
I apologize if someone already said this. I tried to skim through quickly but don't have much time his morning. In addition to eating the right things ie green leafy vegetables, avoid bananas and dairy (except some yogurt bc of the probiotics) those things tend to stop you up.
So I am new here and have tried all of this... Last night my OB suggested a suppository, did NOT do the trick... This morning I have tried Enima, also did NOT do the trick... any one get to the point of trying everything with nothing working?? 17 weeks pregnant as of tomorrow.
Smooth move is a great tea to help. I asked my doctor if it was ok for me to drink and he said totally fine. You can get it at meijer or Walmart. It's like 6 bucks but worth it. hope it helps

I was so damn backed up yesterday, I was sitting on the toilet and said to myself "I can't even deliver this poop I can I deliver a baby". I can laugh about it now, but I was ready to give up then haha.
I tried eating that eating a serving of prunes (yuck) and drinking a cup of prune juice once a day helped me and when it didn't I took 1 Tsp of Milk of Magnesia in the morning to get things going. My Doctor recommended Colace as well if things start to get hard again..
