Pumping help

okay I have a few questions about pumping which might be common sense but I just don't know. My dd had a bottle tonight but she had 3 of 5 oz and now there's 2 oz left in the bottle (breast milk) can I put this back in the fridge for next time or is the last 2oz no good? And also if I pump from one Breast and then the other can that all go into one bottle?!
I know these may seem like stupid questions but any help is great,
Thank you!

You can't reuse the leftover due to bacteria being introduced in the bottle - it's a bummer to dump but it's really safer. When you pump you can use the same bottle for both sides. HTH

  • You cannot reuse the 2oz (as said above). You can use the same bottle for both sides. Breastmilk can be mixed as long as it is the same temperature. (Ex: I've had to use milk from two different pumping sessions to make a bottle. They were both refrigerated and at the same temp so they can be put together).
  • I was told by my doctor, and my lactation consultant  that I could re-use the breastmilk from a feeding as long as it was not older then 4 hours old. I have been doing this with mine and my 5 week old son is just fine and no tummy troubles. I know you can't re-use formula but breastmilk is different because of the bacteria fighting properties it has.

    Talk to your doctor.
  • Thanks for the responses that helps a lot!
  • My pump came with this handy reference guide.
