Sharp pain- should I be worried?

I've been experiencing Braxton hicks for a few days and some have started becoming quite painful, and then today I've had a sharp stabbing pain at the top of my abdomen that hasn't stopped for several hours. (For the record this is my second time and I'm still a bit weary of understanding what is and isn't cause for concern) I hate to bother my OB. Should I be concerned??

Re: Sharp pain- should I be worried?

  • I'd call if I were you. Don't worry about bothering your OB. This is your baby and you have every right to ask questions. That's what they are there for. If anything call the labour and delivery dept at your hospital and they can advise you on what to do. I'd rather get checked than let something bad happen to my baby for fear I'm bothering my doctor.

  • I agree with PP, especially since it has lasted for hours. GL

I agree, call your OB. I read today that pain in the upper abdomen can be a sign of preeclampsia.
  • Hi had severe sharp pain in my abdomen yesterday but he was above my pelvic area below my belly button. I had been experiencing it for about 10 hours, and I called labor and delivery just to be sure and they had me come in for observation. Everything turned out fine but for my peace of mind I felt so much better knowing that I got checked. It ended up turning out to be the baby testing thru a muscle as it's getting into position. Dr. said I will continue to have the pain until the muscle is completely stretched. The pain has subsided as of today. I am super glad I called and if you are a worrier like me I would I advise you to call for your own peace of mind
