Bleeding after orgasm?

Hello

Hoping someone can help me out and I hope this isn't tmi. I am 15 weeks and a day or so pregnant I had an orgasm but no penetration. Immediately after I went to the bathroom and it was dark, but I felt and heard a huge plop in the toilet and immediately turned the light in and low and behold....my worst nightmare. Bright red blood. We went to the er and the doctor ran my hcg and a few other test that all came back normal, however they don't run progesterone. They did an ultrasound, abdominal and transvaginal in attempts to see where the blood was coming from. They saw absolutely nothing at all. They only thing they said they saw was supposedly my placenta was 18mm from my cervix and I was told that I "almost had placenta previa. Baby looked good and was very active, and she had a great heartbeat of 153. I already knew her heart was still going as I I have my own doppler at home. The er doctor did a physical exam and saw nothing wrong with the cervix etc. diagnosis threatened miscarriage.

So today I go to my Obgyn and they also could see no reason for the blood at all. They did a physical exam as well and saw nothing, took heartbeat and it was 167 and heard a lot of movement on the doppler ( they said swooshing sound was movement). We then did another ultrasound and again they could see noting. No pockets of blood or broken blood vessels no nothing. Baby was actively and looked great. Still not comforting to me. Then they took a look at my cervix and said that the placenta is nowhere near my cervix. At all. They said my placenta was at least 3.6 cm away from my cervix which is perfectly fine. The thing is, these ultrasounds were like 13 hours apart. How could there be a drastic difference with that little time in between? Even the Obgyn said it made no sense at all and that it wouldn't move that much in so little time, she said she trusted the us tech at their clinic, but still had no explanation of the vast difference. I just don't get it.

I did IVF and when you do IVF, you do not make progesterone as there is no corpus luteum cysts. So I was on 3 different types of progesterone. I am seeing a specialist that is called a reproductive immunologist and they are the ones that prescribe the drugs I am on and monitor them. They are in a different state, so my OBGYN co-manages me with them. They ( the reproductive immunities) weaned me off the vaginal progesterone first, then the injections and then they reduced my oral progesterone from 400mg to 200mg per day and they were going to stop me depending on labs, but in light of the bleeding they had me go back up to 400mg. I am also on a blood thinner for a clotting factor and baby aspirin as well. The reproductive immunologist told me to hold both blood thinners for now..

The Obgyn said that when you are on blood thinners you are more susceptible to bleeding, which I already knew. She said that if I wasn't on the blood thinners then there would maybe have been just a little spotting, but there was likely more blood than there would have been.

I don't know I am very worried. It took me 8 years to achieve this pregnancy and 4 IVF cycles and then I had to suppress my immune system to do so. Just when I was starting to feel confidant and starting to buy baby things ( just clothes and blankets) and then this happens, I feel like there is no point in enjoying the pregnancy.

Has anyone had any similar experience or any advice?

Thanks for reading girls.

So, I have not had experience with this but it seems other moms on here have also experienced some bleeding and it's come back unexplained. I have noticed I cramp for a little bit after orgasm. Did you feel any cramping before bleeding? I wonder if it's just a more intense reaction to things contracting during.

I'm sorry that you're having to go through this scare. Especially after waiting so long. Really. I don't blame for feeling afraid to enjoy your pregnancy now. However, try to. If baby is still doing well and has a good and strong heartbeat, try not to worry until your OB says it's time to worry.

    Good luck, mama :)

Thank you. I wasn't really expecting any replies as I have only seen bleeding on here when girls have actual miscarriages and that's kinda scary to read about. I have had cramping this whole time I've been pregnant but nothing concerning at all. Not painful and I thought it was just my uterus stretching.

Enjoy your pregnancy even with it being scary. I agree with the above post, only worry when your doc is worried. I experienced the same thing you did but it was a tinge of pink (I'm not on blood thinners). It's scary but depending if you irritated the inside could explain why you saw a little bleeding, it's hard to say. I had this problem before becoming pregnant due to my endometriosis. I hope you are able to find enjoyment with this pregnancy and I wish you nothing but the best!

This is the first time I've posted (long-time lurker)... Here is my experience: I had some spotting/bleeding after sex and then twice more within a week or so. I went in, baby is 100% fine, but it turns out I had a yeast infection. My doctor ordered an ultrasound to check for placenta previa (just to be on the safe side). During the beginning of the US (when my bladder was full), the tech said that my placenta was very low, and *almost* touching the cervix, so it looked like it was a partial previa (I think is what she called it). Well, she let me go to the bathroom, and after emptying my bladder (and during the course of the rest of the US) it looked like my placenta had moved way up, and was no longer near the cervix at all! We joked about the power of positive thinking, but she said that it was possible that a Braxton Hicks contraction had pushed it down during the beginning. My doctor reviewed the US picts and both he and the radiologist said that there was "no sign of placenta previa" and that everything was 100% fine! So, maybe you were having a small BH contraction first? I don't know! We're all different, but that's my two cents! :)

Thank you so much for coming out of the woodwork for me. I don't know what Braxton hicks feel like at all because this my first pregnancy.. I have been having some cramping and did yesterday before the orgasm and bleeding but I thought it was just my uterus growing maybe. I am so happy for your answer. I feel like I get more information from real women than I do doctors, thanks from the bottom of my heart.

My guess is that the blood was going to happen either way, but the muscle contractions forced it out right then. You've been checked fully and everything is okay and your doctors aren't worried. I know it's hard, believe me, I've had 6 miscarriages, but you should try to relax as others have said. You've done everything right. I can tell you as someone who's had many miscarriages that your bleeding would be unusual for one. Mine generally start as light spotting that gets progressively worse and then depending on how far along it's like a period, heavy period or in the case of the last one at 11 wks 2 days like I'd cut an artery it was so heavy. They're generally accompanied by pain and generally happen in the first trimester. If it keeps happening, push the issue with the doctors, but as an isolated incident (and sometimes as a not so isolated one) I've heard of plenty of bleeding during pregnancies that resulted in healthy, full term babies.

I feel like the bleeding and orgasm wasn't coincidental. I feel like the orgasm caused it somehow I just don't know how. I am very grateful for your reply although I am so sad to read that you went through so many losses. Even the threat of one is too much for me to deal with. I can't imagine 6. Hugs to you and thank you for sharing your experience. I always feel more educated from ladies online than I do doctors, in fact if it wasn't for women online I wouldn't have gotten my diagnosis for infertility or the protocol I finally had success with. I hope there is one person out there that I have helped too.

In my first trimester I was having sex dreams and had an orgasm.  My stomach felt crampy for a day or two and I had some spotting.  So after that I was scared to "O" again and told my spouse....don't "worry" about me for the next month or two...until the second trimester.  Now everything is fine!  You are right on the cusp of the end of the first trimester and into the second.  I would probably chat with your doctor on your next visit.  As great as "O's" are....I didn't want to do anything to hurt the baby!

The first trimester technically ends at 13.3 weeks pregnant. Thank you so much for sharing your experience

Hello! I had the SAME thing happen.. It was mostly just spotting. However I was told that your uterus contracts and can release some old blood. I also freaked out and went to the ER, my OB and no one seemed concerned. However, they did find upon exam that I had a polyp on my cervix which could contribute to the bleeding. Did they do a vaginal exam for you? Either way, it could be the contractions or the polyp they told me. I know, I was scared too!!

I think we all run to the emergency in tears when this happens. It sure didn't seem like old blood to me since it was bright fricken red. They did do a vaginal exam and everything is a mystery. I would feel better if they found something but I am grateful the bleeding stopped. That was ten scariest thing in the world to me. I'm glad you and your baby are ok! No more orgasms for me.
