Exercising... after injury?

For about 3 years prior to getting pregnant, I had been attending a pretty intense bootcamp 3-4 days a week. 12 weeks ago, I broke my wrist, so I have not been doing any workouts during the last 12 weeks.  I am 8 weeks pregnant, so obviously I have not worked out during my pregnancy.  My orthopedic doctor told me today my wrist is healed and I can return to normal activity (he does not know I am pregnant).  I read through a lot of posts that say intense workouts such as bootcamp, crossfit, etc. are okay... as long as it is something you have been doing. My question is.... would it be safe for me to go back to the type of workout I was doing pre-pregnancy? Any advice?  Thanks!

  • What does your Dr say?

My guess would be that it is okay as long as you don't do anything too crazy. If you've been doing these workouts for 3 years, a 12 week break is nothing. You should bounce back pretty quickly as long as you don't push yourself too hard. I worked in a Crossfit gym, and the #2 cause of injuries was people trying to work out at the same level they did before a long break (#1 cause was warmups, believe it or not).

Just take it easy. I know some bootcamps really try to push you (and I sure as hell know Crossfit does it!), but that isn't the safest or even most effective way to exercise.

Keep us posted on how it goes!
