Heavy lifting dangers at 29 weeks?

I know we aren't supposed to lift super duper heavy things during pregnancy. Last night DH was attempting to fix our garage door and he needed my help (not with lifting but keeping things lined up straight). Ok, no problem. But at one point he thought he was going to drop the door and although he was lifting the majority of it (it was damn heavy he said) out of instinct I grabbed to help. I didn't by any means lift much of it but enough for me to be nervous now that I put myself in danger of placental abruption. I'll call the nurses line today just to talk to them but in the mean time any thoughts? Am I over reacting?

  • Although you want to avoid those situations, I'd say if you feel fine today things are probably ok. Call for your own reassurance.

  • I would think that if there is no pain, bleeding, or leaking fluid you SHOULD be okay.
But I agree that you should call just for your own peace of mind.
  • I called and talked to the nurse and she said not to be concerned at all. If there is any discomfort and it's just mild she said the most I did was maybe strain a ligament or muscle and it should be better in a few days. There's no bleeding, baby is moving and no back aches or contractions. Just some mild achiness but nothing I haven't experienced before. She said if I start to feel pain or something that seems out of the norm to call back and they'd want to see me, but there's no cause for concern. That definitely put my mind at ease.

I lifted some things the other day and has to go to the hospital because I was in pain. Turns out I'm fine but got a stern talking to Lol as long as your not in pain, your water hasn't broke, your not bleeding, and your plug hadn't come out. Your good girl, don't worry. :)
  • Well my aches only stuck around for a day and then went away. So I was just a bit sore. But I haven't gone overboard like that since. I learned my lesson since it freaked me out so much.

  • I have been lifting 50lb bags of dog food through out my pregnancy. I asked my doctor what my weight limit should be and she said I didn't have one, just to lift with my legs not my back. I am not lifting anything heavier than 50lbs.
