Brown stringy discharge?

sorry if it is TMI! But I am currently 12wks 4 days and had a bleed scare last week, which turned out to be non threatening. But recently noticed a little bit of brown stringy discharge.

Any thoughts or experiences? Thanks!

Re: Brown stringy discharge?

  • I had the exact same thing last week. My OB had me come in for an ultrasound to check that it wasn't the beginning of a bleed, which it wasn't. The next day it became yellowy and I ultimately tested positive for a bacterial infection. It's worth getting checked out bc they said infections can be harder to get rid of during pregnancy. Good luck! :)

  • I had something very similar happen at 10 weeks, OB said it if your system getting rid of the old blood. Any brown blood is old dried up blood. They suggested to just continue gently cleaning the area and it passed in about 5 days.
Glad everything was okay with your baby, I know how scared I was too!
  • With the infection, did you have any other symptoms? I'm currently moving and won't have an opportunity to see a doctor for a couple of weeks
  • No I didn't have any other symptoms except the discharge for 2-3 days.

Just started to have a similar symptom! I'm 12w 4d. Brown tinged discharge, looks like day before period. Have a call in to dr. and already had ultra sound scheduled for Friday. Feeling scared but trying to play it cool.

Sounds like others have had and can often be ok?
  • I had this as well at 5w5d and was diagnosed with a Subchronic Hematoma after my first ultrasound. They told me to come back if it bled again or go to emerge. I went again and they did another u/s. Confirmed the bleed... Some people have them and don't know at all. I would definitely get checked!
  • Keep me updated on your doc app lgt22
  • I had this from ~10 - 11 weeks, am 11w4d today and it seems to have stopped. I had an U/S at 8 weeks and they saw a small SCH so my doctor said that's normal. Brown = old blood and not an active bleed so try not to worry too much. Easier said than done I know.
