ultrasound vs due date

When I had my ultrasound it said the baby was about 10 weeks this week but according to my last menstrual period I would be 11 weeks. Just wondering if my doctor would change my due date to match the ultrasound? I don't see him for another month so just wondering.

Re: ultrasound vs due date

  • It's up to the doctor some do and some don't. My doctor did change my due date. They will let you know next appointment for now keep your original due date.

  • I had an us at what should have been 11w5d but she measured me in my 12th week. They said they aren't going to change the due date because it's only about 4 days difference. It all depends on the dr
  • My doctor said US are typically +/- 7 days. Your due date can change several times. Its more of a guess anyway. Baby's going to come when baby comes.

My LO was due Oct 19 according to my LMP. OB gave me a due date of Oct. 12 basecon US and she came on Oct 6.

Take that as you will, but I wouldn't put too much stock in a due date.

  • I think it's normal. According to my LMP my due date should have been Nov 5, but according to u/s my due date is Nov 13. My doc switched to the later one but said measurements could be off on ultrasound. I go back tomorrow so will see if I have a new due date or not.

I had same experience and they moved my due date back by 2 weeks(originally Nov 9 based on last period and moved to Nov 26). They can adjust at the 20 wk ultrasound if they think they are off. If you want to know call and ask and A Dr. Should sign off on due date before next appt. That's what mine did anyway :)
  • I'm pretty sure I'm going to be going by the ultrasound. My LMP says 11/11 but by U/S today says 11/29. That's a huge difference.
  • By lmp is was due the 6th of Nov but U/S said the 3rd xxx
  • Going by your LMP is only an estimate. It assumes that every woman has a 28 day cycle, which isn't generally the case.
Doctors usually go by your first dating ultrasound because it's more accurate.

My understanding of (one of) the reason for the early ultra sound is it's to get a more accurate due date. If it's a few days it shouldn't really matter, but the doctor will probably change it if it's way off. In either case, it's up to baby when they decide to debut so the date is always tentative.

  • Thanks guys just wondering cause my follow up isn't for a few more weeks. Also want to announce on facebook mothers day weekend but want to make sure I'm out of first trimester.
  • Sounds pretty normal. LMP had my due date as October 31, Dr. changed it to November 6th at my 7 week uktrasound. I've always had 34-36 day cycles and don't ovulate til day 20-21 of my cycle so I fully expected the date to be pushed back. I would just call your office and ask them. The date doesn't mean much, but it's nice to have a number when everybody and their grandma asks when you're due ;)
  • My due date is 11/12/15 and my baby is measuring at 12w3d! :)
  • For our first, we did IVF...I know...like saw it happen, know I got pregnant May 8 at 10:58 a.m. That day they gave me a date of January 23. My little guy measured on the big side the entire pregnancy...8 days after my 'due date', I had my 7 lb son. The US had me at 42+ weeks given his 'size'. When he came out, he was 7 lbs.....Not a huge baby at all - they told me to expect a 9 lb baby based on the US! haha

I did not even have a period when I got pregnant with this little darling! However, we narrowed down based on a blood test I had to have done in January, the fact that my husband works shift work and is in the military...we were able to narrow down to only a few days it 'could have happened'...I say I'm 3 days ahead of what my 1st US says, but it's not a huge deal to me - at least not until the 9th month when every day counts! haha

  • My due date was November 29 but then I went in at 8 weeks 4 days or so I thought I was that far along because of my period. My baby measured 11 weeks. They changed my due date to November 13.
