Bravelle questions

edited April 2015 in Success after IF
Hi to whoever can answer these questions for me. I'm currently gearing to do an IUI again and this time around my protocol has switched slightly instead of doing a clomid+ovidrel IUI
I will be adding in the injection Bravelle so it will be a clomid+bravelle+ovidrel protocol. I have two questions first being what is Bravelle used for? And my second one being that last time when I did just the clomid and ovidrel I ended up with two eggs releasing one resulting in my son :) the other a vanishing twin :( would have been fine with twins if that's what was meant to happen same goes for this iui. I was just wondering if I almost had twins that last time using just clomid and the trigger ovidrel would my chances for multiples be the same as before when I used just clomid and ovidrel or would the likelihood of multiples be increased using the Bravelle injection because of combining it with the clomid and ovidrel trigger all together? Is Bravelle similar to Menopur?

Dx : DOR

IUI #1 (Follistim switched over to Menopur injections) - BFN

Attempted IUI #2 (Menopur injections only cycle) better response on the Menopur then the Follistim combination treatment cycle however my cycle was still canceled due to my eggs not maturing and follicles not growing enough on a high dose of Menopur (Re said I could try a cycle of comid + ovidrel  for an IUI) for my second IUI( praying this works for us)

Clomid + Ovidrel protocol worked still a BFN as a result

Attempted cycle  Clomid  + Ovidrel protocol for IUI # 3 (Unable to do this cycle due to a cyst)

IUI # 3 Clomid+ Ovidrel protocol - BFP    Beta #1 752  Beta #2  1536    Beta #3 3797

Re: Bravelle questions

  • Bravelle is an injectable form of FSH. Menopur also contains FSH but has also LH. I stimmed on bravelle and menopur when I did Ivf.

I hope your RE will keep a good eye on how many follicles develop and won't trigger you if you have too many (more than 2?)

    Good luck!

    IVF #1 ET 1 d3 embryo 10/30/11 BFP
    3 Embryos frozen (1 d5, 2 d6)

    DS born 07/29/12

    FET #1 ET 1 d5 embryo 02/10/15 BFN

    FET #2 1 d6 embryo didn't survive thaw, transferred last d6. CP :(

Thankfully my Re is really good with making good decisions regarding treatments. Thank you for the Goodluck!

When I did bravelle + clomid combo I did the bravelle injection on CD7 by then there is already a lead follicle(s) chosen so my RE didn't think it would cause me to create any extra.  One cycle I did bravelle from CD7-10 and I still only got one follicle.   I think it depends on what day you are doing the bravelle injection. The earlier you do it in the cycle the more likely it would recruit more follicles than clomid alone.  She just had me doing it on day 7 to kinda give my follicle(s) a little extra push and help it mature well and a bit faster.  I was always late a ovulater on clomid alone, and the bravelle helped me be ready to trigger a few days earlier.   When do you start the cycle??

Hi I'm starting the cycle as soon as I'm finished updating my Hsg and other tests I guess what I'm wondering are what are my chances of a possible multiple pregnancy when adding in the bravelle injection along with clomid and ovidrel?because of me almost having twins last time just using clomid and ovidrel then again I guess you can never tell with any of it.I guess I just have a lot of random questions this time around because of never having used Bravelle.
thanks for answering my questions about it.

  • What day in the cycle are you using the bravelle? If it's later in the cycle, like CD7 it shouldn't increase your chances anymore follicles than clomid alone. That was why my RE had me do it on CD 7 because it likely wouldn't create any extra follicles than the clomid did by itself. Clomid can make multiple follicles by itself though like it did with you, but usually not as many as FSH drugs do if taken starting on CD 3. If you take the bravelle on CD7 like I did for two cycles, your lead follicle(s) are already chosen usually and it wouldn't create any extras. Does that make sense? You will just have to see how many follicles you get when they monitor you. You could get one or two and maybe even 3. I never got more than 2 fully mature follicles on clomid or clomid with bravelle. Out of five cycles(2 clomid alone and 3 clomid and bravelle combos), all only had one follicle with the exception of 1 cycle where I had two, and a possible third. One of those cycles I did 5 days of bravelle starting on CD6 and I still only had one follicle. I guess the bottom line is the risk of twins is always there when there is more than one follicle. You will just have to wait and see how you respond. I hope everything works out and I can't wait to see your updates!!! That's sucks you have to repeat your HSG!! I hope they don't make me do that for my IVF this summer.

Thanks for getting back to me last time on the clomid ovidrel treatment I had two mature follicles.Yeah not looking forward to the Hsg agaib I think the nurse thought I was exaggerating when I said the Hsg hurt more than labor I did however have the epidural and my little man wasn't large when born, but I was in tears with pain with the Hsg and I didn't even have blocked tubes the re said I just missed the cut off for having to repeat it of course that would be my luck just hoping it isn't like it was last time I had it done . The nurse said I could take 600 mg Motrin before not sure if that amount will take the edge off this time it better I don't want a repeat of me jumping off the table was your Hsg painful as well ? I was wondering do you go to Sgfc? Thanks for the Goodluck and Goodluck to you as well.

  • No I live in Seattle and went to Seattle Reproductive Medicine for #1 and I will be going to a different clinic for #2 because their IVF is much much lower. I hope to god I don't have to redo the HSG. It hurt but it wasn't the worst paim I have felt. What was the cut off at your clinic for time between HSGs?
