PUPPP's

I am 34 weeks and over the last week I have developed PUPPP's. It's the most unbearable rash right on my stretch marks on my belly. Has any other mom had this before? I am up at all hours of the night applying grandpas pine tree soap and it helps a little with the itching but not a whole lot. It's so painful!! I read it doesn't go away until you delivery and then it starts to fade away. I dont know if I can honestly wait 6 more weeks for this to stop, I need my sleep for the baby comes :(.

No, I haven't all I can offer is my sympathy! So sorry. I am, however, allergic to pine. Not familiar with the product you mention above, but personally that would make it worse for me. Has your doctor prescribed or suggested anything a little more neutral or allergy friendly? (Not saying you have an allergy, but sometimes our skin is much more sensitive during pregnancy.) Keep us posted on how you are feeling.

Also, you may check the search function...thinking there may have been a thread about this recently which may have more info.

ETA: spoke too soon. Not seeing another thread.

  • I found them. It was spelled differently. Here's a link to the results page - the links 3 thru 6 will probably be the most help

No experience myself, but wishing you well! I have naturally sensitive skin which has gotten worse with pregnancy and it sucks! Nothing like what pupps sounds like tho.

  • A) have you seen your Dr. For it?
    B) I feel for you. I've taken care of patients who have had this and it is annoying and painful.
    C) make sure you check in with your dr. Frequently about it. I know there are certain labs that need to be drawn to make sure there aren't complications from it. I had a friend who was induced at 37 weeks from a case of it.
  • Please check out the previous threads that mellymar directed you to. It IS miserable, and you're correct that it won't go away until Baby is born. I wound up with a steroid injection to help with the extreme irritation (doctor said it was the worst case she had seen), and it did help almost immediately. After LO was born, it disappeared completely (and within a very short amount of time). Sleeping with ice packs and taking oatmeal baths also helps.

  • I had it with my first! I would never wish it on anyone! Try not to itch! You don't want to get staph. I found the best relief was bathing/swimming in salt water...so try and Epsom salt bath! And the second my son was born...I didn't itch again! Good luck!

  • Thank you all! I saw the PA but she didn't want to give me anything until I saw my OB, which is in a week and a half :(. The soap is helping but I did put peppermint oil on my belly tonight and it's helping, as of now. Not going to over do the oil just a little to help ease the urge to itch.
  • Had to Google this :) seems to be treated like an allergic reaction have your tried Benadryl cream, Caladryl lotion, cream
    Hydrocortisone cream, or ointment
Oatmeal bath (Aveeno). Maybe even try allergy pills such as zrytex or benadryl.

I have it, but it's a mild case. Even still, no fun! I found the Aveeno oatmeal bath did not help me but soaking in Epsom salts did and helped to make sure I avoided any of it getting infected! Also I use Polysporin Cooling Itch gel. I use it once a day and it soothes it and I usually don't itch much after. I also put a small towel in the freezer then pour witch hazel on one side and put it on my tummy, pull my maternity pants over it and let it sit for about an hour. I usually do that before bed and it gives me relief to get to sleep. I've had some bad nights where it got really itchy and I did take Benadryl. It's safe to take when pregnant. Hope you can find some relief over the next 6 weeks! Good luck!
